  • Apart from sigma sport fucking up their installation mine have been great. Size 9 hands so can't comment on how hey are for small hands. Get your partner to try them out somewhere.

  • @dancing james @hippy thanks guys sounds like a good value for money so I think I will take them.

  • Love them, the one finger stopping power is just perfect. Braking and downshifting at the same time totally changed the game for me. And I really like the big hoods.

  • so @Chak does this cassette mount on a road freehub?

  • I thought I'd already posted about that one?

"Can I use the XTR M9000 cassette on my 11-speed road setup?

Maybe. It should clear your spokes and fit on your 10-speed and 11-speed (with a spacer) freehubs, but your rear derailleur will likely be incompatible with the 40t cog. However, some clever folks have figured out that a longer rear derailleur B-screw can be a cheap hack to make it work."

  • Not @Chak, but yes. One any 10 or 11 speed freehub.

  • will work with XT Di2 rear mech tho .. solution for you as well no? That cassette plus XT Di2 rear mech.

  • I thought @hippy wants a road FD, which rules out an XT Di2 RD?

  • rules out an XT Di2 RD?

    why?

  • You can't mix and match MTB and road mechs. Mr. Shimano he say no.

  • ugh that sucks :(

  • @hippy I am going to get the XT Di2 rear mech next week, wanna check if it works with road FD before I install?

  • yes and shifts like butter.

FD won't work. Whole system shuts down. Shimano doesn't like mixy matchy.

oops, @danstuff hit the nail first.

  • It doesn't. That was something else I posted upthread. The firmware stops you doing it.

  • Or use a "Road link" to extend your derailleur hanger.

  • That's another solution I've posted. I've already got the 36T SRAM cassette but not the Wolftooth.
I wanted to get a Shimano-only solution if possible but it seems like hard work, with xtr and new wheel, etc.

  • Any reason why a medium cage Ultegra Di2 mech, with either a longer B-screw or a Wolftooth or similar extender, an Ultegra or Dura Ace front mech and a Shimano XT 11-40 cassette wouldn't satisfy your requirements? All Shimano, 34/40 low gear, known to work - the only issue is whether you'd need the extender or whether you could get away with a bottomed-out B screw or longer B screw - and will work on either 10 or 11 speed wheels.

  • Wolftooth will let you clear the 40, but unless you go super compact up front, the overall capacity of the derailleur will be exceeded. In my recent experience (Tiagra 4700 and 105 5700) a GS derailleur will do 11-34 with a standard compact. I have needed in both cases (~30mm between dropout / derailleur bolt centres) I have needed the wolftooth roadlink to clear the 34T, although a long b-screw may just do the trick.

  • The 11-40 cassette is 11spd MTB which is 10spd width? It'd fit with a spacer maybe.

Um, basically I ignored it coz I thought it was a bit too 1x11 MTB for my purposes and I think 34x40 is lower than I need. I mean, even injured, I've climbed everything in TCR and TABR with my old man tourist setup (Compact+32T).

  • How about the HG800 11-34 cassette then? It'll fit with a spacer.

  • Yeah, someone mentioned that, it's in my list too but basically costs the same as the SRAM+Wolftooth option, isn't as low and might still need a Wolftooth to work.

  • so you dont want my mid cage 6870 for £50 then? :'(

  • Yes I still want that. It might work better than my short cage when it comes to taking up the slack in the small ring.

  • ah cool, will possibly drop next week after work some day .. or meet midway somewhere? I leave 5:30-ish.

  • PM me where do you work/live? I might be able to 'cross the streams' one day.
