  • yeah, I do a back pedal to warn people of my presence in lieu of bell ringing. Feels like they know what that sound is and it doesn't irritate them as much because it seems incidental.

  • Yeah you got it. I do the same but current wheel barely audible

  • If you get the trials version of the hope hub you get double the clicks

  • I'm guessing they don't do that in 130mm shimano 10 speed

  • Nope, just single speed I think

  • Hope RS4, steel freehub or not needed?

  • Is this KMC 11 speed chain worth the extra £ over this KMC 11 speed chain

My Ultegra chain is showing 0.75mm of wear. Time to change.

  • @muddyfox69 sorry don't know the answer but I remember a guy on ctc forum wrote a lengthy post about how to work this out by measuring pivot distances and how much cable is pulled. His name is Brucey, I'll have a look asap for the post.

  • Stick a zip-tie on your chainstay - It's a lot cheaper than a new hub and wheel build.

  • Need new anyway :)

  • Is this KMC 11 speed chain worth the extra £ over this KMC 11 speed chain

No. It's much better to get the bottom of the range chain from one of the good manufacturers (which include KMC) and replace more frequently than to spooge on high end versions with no practical benefit and then trash the rest of your drive train by hanging on too long to your bling chain.

  • hope, i use them for the same reason - make noise, made in UK, also easy to service and idol proof.

  • i have ordered steel free hub for mine. it comes with 4 pawls as opposed to the 2 pawls in the aluminium free hub body - this will make MOAR noise and give better engagement and reliability

  • Brilliant. Nice one DJ. Might buy new in a month or so. Thought they were more expensive than £140

  • Another frame finishing question (is there a DIY painters thread I've missed?) -

Can I use ordinary solder to fill a small dent? I know it's not as hard as silver solder /brazing, and will melt if powdercoated, but that's not going to happen. I have it at home, and maybe less messy than using a filler. Wondering whether I need to remove the existing primer for it to stick properly or what else to do to make it less likely to fall out.

  • I think soft solder is unlikely to stick to the frame, some type of two part epoxy applied in small quantities may be a better solution.

  • Like araldite? Or is anything that comes in two parts with a hardener an epoxy?
Was looking at Isopon P38 filler since you can get it in small packs.

  • I would use araldite rapid as it does not set quite so hard as the normal type so is not quite so burdensome if you want to fill a dent. i.e a little at a time and then sand back to a flat surface. The isopon stuff is quite brittle and needs a good "key", something like araldite needs rather less.

  • thanks, I'll give that a go.

  • Best method for polishing up dulled rims and removing all the gunky crap from spokes/hubs?

  • Yes.

I have hope hubs on all my bikes, but the aluminum freehub bodies are made of some sort of brie. I've slowly been converting them to Steel ones and they are much less scarred up than the ali ones they have replaced.

  • Help me out here with my English and British manners... So I was just on the phone with someone I know the face but not the name, so I said "Are you the young black gent who's fairly new to the company? I will remember your name now that you told me" Did I sound racist using the word 'black'? I always find it a little sensitive to describe people using the colour of their skin, even though it can be a straight forward way and what's being said is not intended to be racist in any way at all...

  • don't forget you could stroll through the park and have a chat with winston if your diy solutions don't return the outcome you're after.

  • Cross-posting from the Car thread:
Girlfriend had a scrape when rushing to park the other day. 3rd party wanted to go through insurance. We're not fussed about damage to ours and I've just had a look on Admiral's website as I'm not clued up about this. It says:

If you don’t make a claim but a third party does, and we pay out, you don’t have to pay your excess.

That doesn't sound right to me - Can anyone confirm?
