  • 5 mile pb last night at 35.00, only went out for a steady run as my hamstring had been sore after a big run last week but when I saw my pace I thought I'd just see how I got on. Not a flat course (although not exactly a fell either), keen to see how much I can chop off.

Definitely think a 20:00 5km on the flat isn't out the question - fastest 5km in the 5 miles was 21.30.

my 5k pb is 20:39, my 10k pb is 44:31. your 5mi pb is on pace for a 42:30 10k so sub 20 should be well within your reach.

  • Rather than just racking up the distance, I thought I'd see how fast I can run 5k this morning. New pb of 22:55. I'm quite pleased with that. And now quite tired and sore.

  • Ouch. Cling to the inside verge of every turn & straight line everything else! #shortenallthethings

  • Nice one, well done!

  • New pb of 22:55

    top work. well done!

  • Ouch. Cling to the inside verge of every turn & straight line everything else! #shortenallthethings

I do run past putney bridge so anyone getting in my way will be going in the thames for sure.

  • Check the cctv points first maybe?

  • Have discovered a fairly big flaw in my gritstone grind planning, no train transport to Kidsgrove arrives before race start. There's always been v.early trains for recces, hadn't looked at Sundays tho!

Thinking late train down night before, bivvy, stove brekkie & brew, quicksh1tinthewoodsifneeded then run it fastpacking style. Means carrying 20l kit not <8l so will be slower, not perfect as I was targetting this as faster effort for the year but could still be fun.

    /csb.

  • ^ No YMCA or such like you can stay in so you don't have to carry so much? (You can still do your business in the woods if you want... 😀).

  • We're talking Kidsgrove. Nearest hotel options look about 5 miles away and pricey. There's proper camping at Mow Cop which might be an option but I would still be carrying stuff and have to walk back into Kidsgrove so might aswell bivvy by the race start.

Going to see if I can lift share but most runners are getting coach from Disley (finish), another place I can't get to on train early enough.

  • Nice one on the pb!

Pride 10k in Victoria Park this morning. I've kept myself in decent shape with lots of cycling this Summer but with barely over 100 running miles in the last five weeks I'm playing catch-up on running fitness, so I was delighted to clock 33:36 today, 7th overall and 1st V40.

Gives me a lot of confidence before the club 10,000m champs in three weeks, which I was dreading (and it's still gonna be horrible. 25 laps. Ugh...) but feeling a bit less scared about it now.

  • 33:36, 10km, does not compute. V40 to boot. Extra wtf.
    Seriously impressive.

  • oh yes. the 10000. I'm giving myself a bit of a beasting at the moment in preparation.

well done on a great run

  • Great run given the time off. Proof that rest is training too yeah?!

  • Those 4x100's were great spectacle. I think the women might well be dq'd though...

  • What a great run by 4 x 100 amazing gold. Love the relay. Felt bad for Jamaica and bolt left it all on the track. But 3rd fastest time ever brilliant. And silver for the women is ace.

  • The third fastest 4x100 in history is amazing. The only two faster were both by the Bolt/Blake/Carter/Frater Jamaican team. So that's faster than any of the great US teams and only bettered by the Bolt Jamaicans twice. That's just incredible.

  • Im sure my HR was higher watching that race on the sofa than it was during my 3miles today

  • I didn't even realise Bolt had pulled up until after the finish as I was concentrating on the GB runners so much!

  • How do people feel about the fact that Bolt might've missed his full potential? The looking to the camera before the line etc? Choosing style over speed perhaps?

FWIW, I think a big part of his legendary status comes from his character, but can't help wonder if he could have been faster.

  • second 50k in 8 days in the bag. personally think the 4mph cutoff was a bit harsh esp as they based it on the stated 28.8mi distance and not the 31 it actually was.

but because i pushed myself through the first 20k I managed to put aside enough time and with stoppages and walking (so much walking in the second half) I averaged 9:00/km (4mph is 9:19/km) and juuuuuuuuust squeezed through.

think they have such a harsh cutoff because the race is literally 4 guys on the checkpoints and this year just 12 people running this the final leg of the 4 day challenge, 1 who did all 4 days
3 dropped out and I was DFL but I knocked about an hour off last weeks time so I was hauling arse the whole time.

i'm sure i'll find some holes in my performance on deep examination but for now, given I raced last week and am still far away from my previous race weight and fitness I am more than happy with the way today played out.

now I am just waiting for the pizza, cajun burger, halloumi fingers, tiramisu and full fat coke i just ordered to arrive to top off the 3 pints i had at our local.

  • Nice one, 2 ultras in 2 weeks is some going.

  • Some going @HatBeard putting in two ultras. Especially when you get bonus miles included 😕

Don't stop unless you really have to be stationary. It's surprising how much time can slip by when you're messing about at CPs or with kit. That time being a distance which is hard to make up again.
    Only stop for:-
Road junctions where your going to get mowed down.
Retying laces or sorting out your feet.
    Refilling water bottles.

Practice getting your pack off and finding/stash stuff whilst maintaining a decent pace. Jacket on and off without slowing down much.

Approaching a CP, get your bottles or bladder ready to fill. Grab your grab bag if you have one. Say thanks to the CP staff and get walking.

I can get a Muller Pot rice out of my pack, eat it and then stow the spoon and empty whilst maintaining 6:00/km. A few practice goes were messy 😂

  • How come you have to pull out?
