  • what do people do after their run? I stretch following instructions on a you tube video, then have a warm shower.

    But then, what next? Do you go to bed? I've found if I'm in a sitting position after running, for only an hour, I get up and I'm all creaky and aches. If I'm not lying flat after a run, my back hurts a bit the next day.

    Only kidding, I don't stretch unless something felt tight on run. I do keep moving about though.

    If you're sore after sitting then defo worth avoiding that after running!

  • Anyone around London Fields/Bethnal Green/Hackney Central up for a running partner once a week?

    Like Kev, I'm just starting out, unlike Kev I'm not progressing very much distance-wise. I think more through lack of structure and planning than anything, but also I'm not great at motivating myself alone (which is why I love Parkrun).

    Did a 10km my work signed me up to in Feb of this year- 54 mins with no prep.

    5km, just did 20:20 at Parkrun this week.

    Seem to be able to hold 4:30/km pace quite well.

    Looking to do 8-10km sessions with perhaps some high intensity sections thrown in.

    Carb replenishing pints afterwards?

  • How come you have to pull out?

    I don't have to really, but I deferred 2017 to 2018 and I've got no idea if I'll be in shape to get a PB (the reason I wanted to run the course). We also have an annual family get together prior to Easter which might clash). Would rather have the cash now and apply again if I'm up for it.

    Big weekend run for you I see. How are the legs?

    I am having huge Ladywell10000 fear. I just don't feel I'm in shape; struggling to break 17 at parkrun at the moment. Three weeks to go, and I'm on holiday for one of them.

    Postrun I drink milk. Then I eat.

  • I feel your pain @juanito. My aim is to not come last. I'm in race 3.

  • It's usually after 11 pm when I get home after running. I'm not hungry at that time.

    I think I'll just keep going to bed, even if it means lying awake looking at the ceiling for an hour before drifting off.

  • If you've done a hard effort you should eat, even just a handful of nuts.

  • Spewed my guts on Thursday night, felt ill all weekend, just went for a cheeky 4.5miles round the block, definitely still not recovered. BRB off to go die.

    I did 3x3200 this evening with 3' recovery. They felt aerobically ok, although the legs were dead. I ran about 11:22 for each one so I need to find another 400m in the same amount of time to stay with the pacemakers in my race. Running with other people should help.

  • Eton manor. I did 8*1k tonight with 400 m recovery, first 60 seconds walking and watch gifted me a new vo2 max of 67.

    However, it predicts a 5k of 15.31 and I'm well over 2 mins slower. I think I prefer my watch's version of me.

  • Which race are you in? I wonder how many people will lap me. Five did in the orion fast Friday 5k, so maybe 10 for the 10k

  • I'm in race 4 with Gary Towers from your club. Hopefully there shouldn't be much lapping going on.

  • It's a good one to do, great support on the course and stadium finish. I really enjoyed last year running to have a good time as opposed to get a good time.

    Yeah 17k on Saturday, split into 5/8/4. Ran parkrun then to parents then in-laws so had gaps between each. Legs ok when running by felt tired after lunch.

    Up in Leeds this week for work, did 14k yesterday and 5 today. All flat along the Aire but fairly pleasant. All slow and steady miles at the mo.

  • Saw you've signed up to the Hackney Half. Good stuff! I'm hoping to be up to that standard by Jan or Feb. Did 12km on Tuesday night, was a bit wrecked yesterday, but going to try again with that tonight, and then regularly for the next two or three weeks and then move up to 14 or 15.

  • A colleague and I dragged ourselves through 11km of river path this eve, longest distance he's run in about 2 years and took my weekly total up to 31km. Not breaking records but weekly totals slowly increasing (unlikely to get time for a run tomorrow or over the weekend). Moving in the right direction!

  • 5km season ended with 17.10 tonight. So happy with progress given these have been mixed in with longer stuff for upcoming Ultras.

    May revisit in 2018 after xc season etc to see if 16.xx is achievable.

  • Pleasantly bit-more-pace-little-less-plod 12k this evening, nice sun, tail wind all the way home. Lovely.

  • Legs still bit heavy after my weekend ultra but my Stryd power meter finally arrived yesterday (and because of the delay I got it for free! full refund). so dragged myself out for a recovery 5k. stats nerds feel free to have a nose around...

    was a fairly even effort, the dropout is where I had to use a double crossing on one of the busiest roads through mordor. in the final km I made an conscious decision to start to slowly ramp up the effort as I went, and was fully intending a 75m sprint along the path where I stop recording but i managed about 10m and my legs said no thank you.

    strava doesnt support display of running power data (it's stored though as it displays if you switch the activity to a ride instead) and annoyingly they have said they have no intention to support it, which is a shame.

    stryd has its own dashboard but it's not great and you can't share it. but as with all things my garmin can feed it automatically so if it improves over time my data will be available already.

  • One does not simply run through mordor. etc etc

  • Race the Train time again. Went all in on a pb attempt (1.41pb) hit 12 miles and legs said no, hr dropped quickly so jog/walked it in, 1.49. Good fun but a race too far after Thurs 5km.

    Organiser is stepping down so this may be the last one which would be a sad outcome.
