SOR with 4 Star Classics or KGF or similar?

Keep seeing nice landrovers and wondering why I own 2 normal cars that both basically do the same thing. Apart from electrics the lancia does everything better than the subaru... It's just as quick, it handles better, is better on fuel, nicer seats and driving position and the rear seats fold down flat.

You could swap Subaru for Land Rover in that sentence.

Get a cheap sports car.
-
• #36081
Have you used any of them?
-
• #36082
No. I've only used Porsche ones and Avantgarde, who tend to do older stuff.
The concept is great, you often get the same even once they've taken their bit (used to be 10% or £2k, whichever is highest) and they don't have to find the cash to buy the car or take the risk. Everyone's a winner.
I guess if the company went bust after selling the car but before paying you there would be an issue...
Have a chat with them, you'll know if it feels right.

I think I'm getting old.
Insurance company has given me a Vauxhall Mokka hire care until the figure out what they are doing with my wrecked mini.
It'S strangely satisfying to drive. I like nothing about it, but also dislike nothing about it, which seems to be more important to me these days. I am very easily perturbed, so a car that doesn't really piss me off at all is a great achievement.
WTF is happening to me.

FFS.

'mokka'
hnnng.

Don't worry, it's just because it's different and new. like many things, a few weeks and you'll find things to moan about.
What I would worry about is that you didn't say you miss the mini, or the mokka is so much worse etc... Mini not really that great or just all cars are a bit samey now?
-
• #36088
True but I do miss all the space and being able to chuck in a few fully built bikes. Don't miss plodding along doing 60mph but do miss 30+ MPG.

I think I've just come to realise that you have excellence, and you have 'this will do'. Everything in between is just mediocre, and basically a complete waste of money.
I don't think I will ever again bother with anything other than 'this will do' until electric car technology has made the next leap forward that is on the horizon.

Has there been much discussion about the ULEZ in this thread? All cars in the classic tax bracket are meant to be exempt which is nice.
-
• #36091
Initial response is that the mileage is higher than they'd normally consider.
-
• #36092
Yeah. I wondered that.
-
• #36093
Light it on fire.
-
• #36094
Or keep it.
-
• #36095
They're not interested- not enough margin for them.
-
• #36096
For the love of God please stop saying the same abusive shit every single day.
Enough!

have you had a trade-in price, with the money off a new Volvo?
Would you get a more favourable price from an independant Volvo dealer? -
• #36098
I don't know, my suspicion would be that they'd offer practically nothing for a 21 year old car on 180,000 miles - they'd not sell it, other than to punt it to an auction.
I could always chuck it on eBay to finish Sunday evening and kick it off at £0.99 I guess.
-
• #36099
sometimes you see souped up 850s just in the showroom with a nuts price (my local volvo garage has one with a roll cage).

I know there's specialists for Focuses that deal in modified cars (http://www.st-focus.com/ for example) and occasionally have other hot hatches. Don't know if there's anything similar for Volvos -bit of a long shot, I guess.
It can't be worth getting rid of it at the prices you've been offered? If you sorn it, and adjust your insurance way down, would that come close to the price of storing it (outside London somewhere?)
Looks like that sale is dead.
Where shall I advertise next?
