• I reported a scooter rider last week through Roadsafe and attached a link to hi-def footage of the incident, clearly showing the license plate of the vehicle, but the police have been in touch asking me to send them a DVD with the footage. Is this standard practice for legal reasons or something? Has anyone else had to snailmail evidence to the police for stuff like this?

  • Sounds like they are taking it seriously if anything...

  • Easier for them to track physical evidence than digital.

  • If, in the future, they come to you for a written statement you can "produce" said DVD as a physical piece of evidence (Exhibit DNDHM/1) and refer to it as such in your statement.

  • Fair enough. They're being incredibly slow to respond either way.

  • Reported some Prius-driving Uber-arsehole to Roadsafe this morning for almost taking me out with a classic indicate-then-immediately-execute-right-turn manoeuvre as I was filtering slowly past standstill traffic. Got it all on film, including number plate, but am I likely to hear anything given that the camera doesn't catch who exactly was driving?

  • When the police ask for a DVD, are they asking for a data DVD with a video file on it, or a fully authored DVD that can be played in a standard DVD player?

  • If you are reporting an offence which is shown in your vid then they will send the owner of the vehicle a form which he/she is obliged, on pain of a fine, to reveal who was driving at the time and date.

  • Probably the latter. Give them both?

  • a fully authored DVD that can be played in a standard DVD player?

Don't forget to include bonus features such as some deleted scenes and an interview with the director...

(And a 90 second long FACT advert that can't be skipped...)

  • An update to the appeal I talked about earlier (guy sounds horn at my ex in an attempt to impress her and when she has the audacity to take umbrage decides to knock me off and flee a few minutes later, in France) So the appeal happened, I wasn't able to go because I was working away, after consulting a lawyer I decided not to risk the best part of 1000 euro on one but sent in a file with the original complaint. Briefly, he lost the appeal, his 4 month ban was reduced to a 2 month ban (he is a professional driver) but the fine (400 euro) and my compensation (2000 euro) was upheld. Still not bad for assault with a deadly weapon and failure to stop. Fortunately I'm fully healed (although a week of sleepless nights at the time) and the bike only suffered a scuffed hood and 2 small chips to paint on the frame (although it is a vintage 80's Paletti so it is a bit of a shame). I'm definitely glad I reported it.

  • I find it bizarre the way that being a professional driver is seen as a mitigating factor in sentencing rather than someone thinking do we really want this person spending so much time on the road.

  • Now here is when I thought do I lamp him, anyone who's met me knows I'm a lover not a fighter, but with 25 years of kungfu and 10 years of ju jitsu under my belt I can handle myself and suppose in that split second I judged he was wanting to make a scene rather than actually kick off.

Sorry for the cynicism, but I half expected this story to end in MASSIVE DRUGS and driving off in a Honda Accord.

  • Glad to hear he didn't get away "scott free". Professional drivers should know better!

  • Sorry for the cynicism, but I half expected this story to end in MASSIVE DRUGS and driving off in a Honda Accord.

Bloody hell, a QOTW reference on LFGSS. Now that's something I didn't expect.

  • Handed himself in 5 days later? Fucking hell Essex Police, you have his car and license plate details immediately after the incident and you don't go straight over and pick him up?

  • b3ta?

    edit - ah didn't see @se1derful 's post

  • Yes, B3TA is quite good at calling out self-aggrandising side notes.

On that note, I will continue doing MASSIVE DRUGS at Roskilde and drive home in my Honda Accord.

  • Parents, when you have a kid in the passenger seat, all the more reason to pay attention and indicate. Corner of Coldharbour Lane and Gresham Road, young girl in passenger seat obsessed with cakes in the window of the shit cake shop, mother ignoring her, also ignoring me. When the mother turns left onto Barrington Road, the only reason I wasn't street pizza is because I'm occasionally psychic. Apparently.

  • Anyone know of a website where I can find a vehicle from a partial number plate?
Had a bloke in a small white (contractor) van call me a cnut and brake sharply in from of me with the intention of me ploughing into the back. Tried ti take pics but they ended up blurry and too small.

  • Just did my first roadsafe report! (Taxi cunt bullying his way into my lane in the middle of fucking old street roundabout ffs)

Noticed when reporting it there's a field for ASZ infractions. I could report so many of these with camera evidence. Is it worth doing this or does ticking that box likely immediately direct the reports to the bin?

  • I've been hitting all the boxes(uninsured, drunk, whatever) and then putting in the box "no normal driver would do this, they must be drunk or something" yet to have anyone complain back lol

Had a text from a police today saying one I put a video of in ages and ages ago pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and got 12 weeks in jail and 15 months driving ban.

  • Reported a taxi and a bus last week. Happened within the space of a couple of minutes so I lumped them both together in the same report with just the one video. Got an email back relatively quickly saying the owners of each vehicle would be sent letters of warning.
