  • Ha! I really like the look of it, but i've never been accused of having taste. It's his take on the cetma style racks, but he's up for tweaking designs depending on what people want. Think he's selling them for 80 or 90 so not super cheap.

  • @privatepatterson linked to his

  • Any recommendations for a basket that will be a good fit for a small front rack (Nitto m18)?

  • I've used the smaller sized wald basket on one of those a while back. Just attached with zipties

  • Bingo. Running multiple 137s ziptied to a variety of mini racks. Tough to go wrong.

  • I smile at this thread. I'm 60+. Dad was a postman. One day he surprised me with a post office bike. Beyond repair they said; not true. I was 9. It was my first big (I mean BIG) bike. Red and white, single speed with a huge flat rack on the front which was perfect for my newspaper round bag. Weighed a ton. And we lived at the top of a big hill. (cue Hovis tune). I delivered papers not able to pedal and sit at the same time, for weeks, until I'd saved enough wages (5 shillings, 25 pence a week) to buy a Sun 5 speed racer....for £5. Wish I still had both.

  • The lesson is? Never get rid of a bike. Keep 'em all!

  • :-) what you riding now?

  • Hi Extra. I ride a Cotic Escapade daily knocking out 100miles a week in London mainly around Regents Park. Treated myself to a Lapierre Zesty for mtb. And I've a 1935 Raleigh Path Racer for easy days in the sun.

  • I knock out about 100 milestones week go to and from work... the temption of taking the train is getting greater as more fair weather cyclists come out to play... maybe I will just join the Regent's Park folks!

  • I have the Cetma-style Tu rack, but both the legs cracked at the weld between the drop out and the main length section. Got them replaced with some legs made by D'menor Bikes which @laner mentioned earlier and has been solid as heck since! Going to be taking it for a bike tour soon so will report back then!

  • I want a flat front rack that doesn't need mounted to the crown fork. My fork has mid fork mounts but no hole in the front of the crown.

    Suggestions?

  • My home to work is only 7 miles so I'd stretch it out to 13 but after the 4th time of being knocked off I quit that. Instead I roll into Regents Park early early and enjoy the miles and the start of the day and so far I've stayed upright. My wife is happy!

  • you could probably make a surly 24 pack one work with P clips

  • Yeah I know, my route at the min is against rush hours traffics because I work out of town, so it's OK most days. I use to have to go to Kings X, I did that horrific Blackfrair bridge for 3 years including the before, during and after that stupid superhighway.

  • A. Is your fork steel?
    B. Do you own a drill?

  • Carbon fork, so no drills allowed.

@B0N0R will look into that. Pricey!

  • Is it designed to take racks or just an extra mudguard Mount option?

  • Carbon fork

Just buy a metal fork. It's not worth the hassle.

  • Eh, I'd argue buying a new fork just so I can have a front rack is more hassle.

@TM the fork is designed to take a rack, at least the midfork mounts are.

  • I reckon Blackburn outpost is as good as it's gonna get

  • Can any one tell me if this mounting will work in the long-term with a Blackburn outpost / Salsa Marrakech please. Never used a front rack and the instructions were pants.

Have I done it all wrong and missed something obvious?

  • Yes, I'd say you're running it too high and have the stays too long. The lower mount should be on the rack eyelet above, and in front of the dropouts. Then the upper one should be at the midblade one where you currently have the lower one (either rotated or trimmed), Like these:

  • Yes! They both look much less stupid. I'll take another run at it tonight. Thanks.
