Two evenings, two magpies. This one got left behind when he ran away from mrs_com's screams. It's now in a box in the shed to see if it recovers from shock in a dark warm quiet place.

How is he catching them?!
-
• #6279
Fuck knows. I think they are trying to nest in a tree above where he likes to sit. They are then trying to oust him and if they get too close, he nabs them. That's the current theory anyway.
I thought there was an intruder in the house last night as mrs_com threw her laptop on the sofa, covered her face and just started shouting "NO NO NO NO" when the catflap went.

Like a scene from the birds?
Friend has a blue british short hair, she has the most amazing soft fur and her ear fur feels like velvet. Anyway, she is on heat and so far has pleasured her self on the floor and arms if you aren't too careful.

Maybe someone knows this.
My cat has been a bit grumpy. She doesn't like to get touched just in front of her hips anymore. She bites. She's a bit distant. It's strange behavior, a month or 2 ago, I couldn't get her more than a meter away from me. She eats fine, she sleeps fine, she drinks fine, she pees fine, she poops fine. She runs up and down the stairs, jumps on lot's of stuff. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong.
I've been to the vet a few times, but they say she's in perfect health. She's also acting tough there. She acts different from how she acts at home. They took some blood, ran some tests, nothing is wrong. They say they can't do anything. For years she followed me around the house, always sitting and sleeping on my lap when I'm home, always wanted attention.
I don't get what's wrong. It's a huge behavior change.

second opinion from a different vet ? sounds odd, any major changes at home that could have spooked the cat, this may sound strange but have you been ill at all ?

Have they talked about the possibility of it being stress?
I know it sounds wacko but we had the run around for short periods over the last few years with our cat Fabric.
Fabric was periodically dragging his hind legs on the floor and also occasionally walking around with his tail puffed up and tucked between his hind legs. Fabric has a heart problem so we feared the worst, suspecting a blood clot. The first time we took him to the vet for it we all worried that he wouldn't be coming home.
After months and months of tests all physical possibilities were ruled out and it was concluded that the behaviour was entirely, er, behavioural.
A short course of kitty anti anxiety meds and he has been fine for months.
I'm sure our case was very unusual but its worth considering these things...cats are incredibly sensitive creatures even if they do hide it well most of the time. Our case was slightly confused by the fact he got a UTI, probably from the effects of stress.
We never worked out what was causing his anxiety/stress but weirdly things improved a lot once we got a puppy. Perhaps it was loneliness or boredom!

Second opinion sounds like something I can do.
Maybe it has something to do with her history of this year. I actually forgot about it, even when my bank account doesn't.
In January, she just fell over. This was on a sunday evening. I took her to the emergency vet, who diagnosed an inner ear infection. I had to give her antibiotics for 14 days.
After that, I went for a routine check and although my old vet said her teeth were fine, the new one showed that they weren't. They had to pull 3 of them. At the normal location, they figured out a bit late they couldn't do it because of the lack of equipment. So they woke her up and a few days later she had to go to another location.
A few days later, the fur on her jaw was red, so I took her to the vet, she had an abcess there which went open a tiny bit. It was drained and I had to give her painkillers for a week and antibiotics for 2 weeks.
Besides that, I moved into this house a year ago and I'm not done yet. I'm almost done building a new kitchen, and I'm doing one project after the other.
I didn't even have a cold.

Stress isn't wacko, just weird for her.
She doesn't go well with other animals. I wouldn't mind borrowing a puppy to see if that helps, but I'm afraid that she might kill the puppy. She doesn't like other cats, dogs, tiny children (age 2 and lower) near her. Anything she might be able to kill goes down.

Ours went a bit off the rails when we did our kitchen. Most visible of the this was he started licking all the hair off his stomach. He also had his teeth cleaned under general anesthetic and we moved shortly before that - here's hoping it's just stress and she feels better soon.

"I moved into this house a year ago and I'm not done yet. I'm almost done building a new kitchen, and I'm doing one project after the other"
Could be this changes to her territory / home, not feeling relaxed and as stoneheadge says stress can be a big factor, sounds like the cat has had quite a past year, i would say second opinion and just make her home as comfortable as you can for her with safe places where she can rest, and fingers crossed you get a happy moggy back. Good luck

Probably just stress then. I'll make an appointment with another vet, just to be sure. She used to love to sleep on my chest, with her paws around my neck, her head on the right side of my head, hugging me, while I was laying back in my chair watching a movie. I miss that.

Yeah it might just be stress, never thought about it. I have 6 or 7 of those scratching poles with fake fur lined box underneath or on top of it. She doesn't use the boxes though. She likes to sleep on the old fridge that I have yet to sell. It's in the living room at the moment. There, or in a corner, under the lack tables, under the living room table, at the carpet in front of front door and a few other places.
I'll go to another vet to be sure
