Wahoo Elemnt

  • I've now used my Wahoo for a month or so and am really happy with it and don't see myself going back to be honest.

Much nicer to use and the only con I've found to it is the battery which is a bit weak on the Bolt but I don't mind just plugging it in when I get home especially as it's a standard Mini/Micro USB.

  • You know this.

  • Starts in 38 hours

  • WIll you record it in one go? mine work pretty well especially after re-charging with a battery pack.

  • I will ride it in 4½ days - but I'm a little off shape, so I'll probably need the extra psychological boost of making a new recording each day.

  • Split the route in 4 maybe? I found this have a better psychological boost than just sticking to recording.

  • Yes! Did that yesterday actually :)

  • Good luck.

  • Will need it, thanks

  • Honestly, it's will power,as long you can stick to your mind, you will prevail and be fine.

  • Just got my bolt today - the most difficult part of it was figuring out how to change my password for RidewithGPS as I usually just login with Facebook.

Solid bit of kit. Super pleased, haven't had to use TBT just yet though.

  • Stolen for phone screensaver.

    Great call.

  • Anyone got a tip on how to transfer a route to Elemnt with cues (so Elemnt uses them and not just show the route on the map)

  • Turn by turn directions? You need to link your account to RWGPS or Komoot and then put routes on there that way. If a RWGPS route has cues then it will put them onto the Elemnt once you copy them to 'my routes'. Komoot will generate cues automatically and you can upload an existing GPX file to it, but you need to buy maps for it and then it'll mess around with your route and basically it's all a bit fiddly... though does basically work quite well from my one experiment with it.
So far I've got by with copying other people's routes with cues off RWGPS and not paying for a proper account (I've mainly wanted TBT on audaxes where other people have already created routes), but if you want to do more complicated stuff yourself you probably need to pay for a rwgps account that lets you create routes with cues.
Hopefully a future update will make it a bit easier...
    Still better than garmin though.

  • TBT routes with ride with GPS doesn't require a paid account. You can't download the route from the site via your browser or whatever (as this does require a paid account, I think), but you can set the wahoo to sync with rwgps and it'll transfer everything in your rwgps 'routes' tab (so routes you create and other peoples that you star or pin or whatever) onto the elemnt.

  • @ad441 @TurtleRecall Fantastic - it works!

  • Good! Actually, whilst I'm on here, anyone know why this might happen:

82mi ride created by my mate on rwgps and synced to elemnt - no problem, went for the ride and it worked faultlessly.

104mi route created by same mate on rwgps and synced to elemnt - mostly kinda ok but took ages to switch to the map page on the wahoo and it missed a few cues. As in, my mate would say 'are we turning up here?', I'd look at elemnt with it suggesting nothing other than carrying on in a straight line, then after we went past the turning it'd start flashing red and beeping.

    Any ideas?

    Pretty much it.

Was pleasantly surprised at how well it work.

  • Even with RideWithGPS, sometime it doesn't offer a turn-by-turn on every single road, every once in a while sometime it missed a bit.

I also notice that if the route isn't exactly in-line with where you are on the road, sometime it doesn't quite register the turn-by-turn.

Still a large improvement over the Garmin, whom quite happily eat up data when it felt like it.

  • Don't let your mate draw the route...

  • Experience of the Bolt from my 600km touring in Finland since Thursday.

Battery copes with recording 15 hours with an active time of 10 hours. Turn-by-turn cues enabled.

Pressing the down button multiple times on Climb-screen reveals extra profile information from the loaded route.

  • 400k recorded in one go this weekend. My Elemnt will go on for about 12 hours with speed sensor, cadence, hr and routing. Night start so I also had backlight enabled for about 6 hours. Pretty impressed I have to say.

  • Despite just getting a wahoo elemnt I just placed my pre-order for the Hammerhead Karoo... A $200 off, one day only discount was too good to miss.
    I'm so easily persuaded! :)
Now I just hope it's as good as it looks in dc rainmakers preview video!
At least having both units means I'll always have a backup! :)

  • swear thats quite a bit more than wahoo state its meant to be able to do? nice
