New quote...another year of driving (3>4) and it has gone up!!!
How about no.

I lived abroad for a few years and upon my return my insurance had doubled, even though I had zero no claims bonus when I left.
The shittest thing is that if you're unemployed, your insurance is so high it's often unfeasible.

Is a ~£200 increase in insurance in the expected range when going from a 1.8 petrol hatch to a 2L turbo 4x4 wagon? Other details remain the same.
Admiral have been best for us. Any other insurers I should run a check with?
-
• #107
Depends if it's petrol or diesel how reasonable the price increase would be too me, but to the insurer it'll come down to how often the new car tends to get pranged and the cost of said prang.
I just used the Money Supermarket tool IIRC, beat all the specialists by much$.

I don't do diesel.
Thanks, I'll have a look at MoneySupermarket.
Did you get my email? The one about your sack?
-
• #109
Yes, sorry - forgot to respond. I'm in Gran Canaria next week, lets sort it the week after, I can meet you somewhere in town.

He's been telling everyone that will listen that the SMP sorted that...

What's with insurance? I just had a look on vans and it's mad. Like £1200 for a £2500 transit.
More than I paid at 17 to insure a car.
My big old sprinter was only £500 when I was 23.
-
• #113
Perhaps they're targeted by crim's because they might have stuff in them?
-
• #114
Odd, I thought vans were normally cheaper to insure because there's nothing of 'em and parts are cheap, etc.
-
• #115
That's what I thought, plus insurance doesn't cover contents (tools). I insured a dirty big sprinter when I was younger and it was cheap.
But £1200 for a small transit is mad.I'll have to look around more.

We used price comparison sites and the one that starts with A usually was cheapest.
Admiral, that's them.
What's wrong with your moto? :)
-
• #117
Nothing. Just might be a bit more practical!
-
• #118
Well yeah, much. Your missus said she wanted a car because her and a bike wouldn't fit on the moto - priorities eh :). When you race the 100 you will need her handing up bottles so hurry up and get that van. You could get a wagon or hatchback. I got to all of my races in a little Focus without much drama.
-
• #119
I could but having a van is nice. And yes, all to keep the lady happy! ;)
I did last years 100 on just 1.5L in my camelbak, worked well actually. No handups. Just stuffed 8 gels down my top too. Could have done with a few more gels for the ecca 100!

It depends on the temps. Because of that crazy early start on the Cambridge 100 I started with a 500ml bottle and hadn't finished it by >3hrs. I took a handup from the gf more because I felt bad for riding past her each lap than out of necessity. On the afternoon 100s though it can be hotter so I would be drinking more so it's nice to have the option of more fluids.
I tried the Camelbak thing but it was a no go for the front install and a bit annoying on my back so I stuck with bottles. Might revisit it if I do 100s again. -

Campervans are apparently cheaper to insure. Could do a minimal self-build.
-
• #123
Minimal camper though, just needs foldaway campbed, stowable cable, properly mounted water source and cooking device... And a side window I think.

£1,561.28 per year with Admiral for a 2004 reg Honda Cr-V ?!?! fuck cars, man.
I must be doing it wrong. never been named on a policy, had license since 2009, driven loads, never crashed.

We're getting a handmedown, Berlingo worth about £1500. Quote time. Have put me job in as Office Administrator as i'm 20+hrs per week in office 6ish coaching.
Best quote £400 which is doable. Most ridiculous quotes as attached... bonkers.
Also chatting with a broker later for some other quotes & to ask about what job titles appropriate to use.
