  • Maybe in your club

  • No room for jokes in yours?

  • Biek club is srsbsns. 7% body fat and 5w/kg FTP entry requirements for my local Sunday cafe ride.

  • Miss the joke completely. Make snippy comment.

  • I try to avoid club runs as I like riding my bike fast.

  • I try to avoid club runs as I like riding my bike fast for ten minutes then stopping for coffee and cake.

  • ^ Gluten free cake and almond macchiato.

  • When you go out with north road cc who are an excellent club btw, you will find they have fast, medium and social groups.

  • Not all clubs are as excellent as ours.

  • Introvert.cc up in here.

  • The torm jersey my mum chose for me for xmas is the blue with white stripes, it's basically an EC1 jersey. That's all.

  • Also, people starting their own clubs is fine. They want to stay in their comfort zones and should be allowed to. Maybe with positivity, encourangement and experience they'll learn more about participating in organising events and contributing to the community (see: 5th floor, as has been previously mentioned).
    That's all.

    I agree, however I must point to @Fox's statement that is spot on in regards for those who start new club because the old one isn't tickling their spot;

Frustrated with the traditional club model, we decided to forge our own path.

Basically means: We went on our local club run and there weren't enough gramming opportunities. Also everyone was wearing mismatched, ill fitting kit - it was an aesthetic horror show! We're freelance graphic designers, we shouldn't have to put up with this!

i'm not sure it does but this is also fine tbh. The world is all about 'graming and social media now, and there's big bucks to be made if you do it right tbh. If you can't join 'em, try and beat 'em aye

  • That's it I'm setting up an anarcho-communist cycling club.

I have no idea what that means though.

  • There is something to be said for just turning up to a club run and introducing yourself, you're unlikely to be turned away by anyone, so perhaps a big dose of HTFU required.

Yup. I have questionable social skills, but still have yet to have a shit experience riding with new groups of people. Everyone's usually incredibly friendly.

I suspect the new wave of clubs have started as traditional clubs are mostly shit at the internets. Someone trying to engage with them on snapbackchat etc isn't going to work.

  • Cycling is a healthy growing sport, so you cant worry about it dying so it's all good to me. If half of new clubs organise event then we'll rapidly have more than we can handle (apart from the TT/road racing which have so much bureaucracy they're almost impossible for small clubs to plan.

one of my first experience with a proper 'cycling club' was one that didn't have online banking and you still had to pay your entrys via cheque. TT season you'd turn up on a wednesday evening, pay your £3 and see where you came on the points chart that no one understood. While it is great, there was definitely nothing 'modern' about it

  • Dulwich has a new joiners ride specifically to onboard new members.

Probably painful to crawl around the Kent lanes at 22kph if you're a member of the 'Skwad' and you won't be deemed instantly worthy of a black and white photo on the club's website with your nickname but you can't have it both ways.

  • Our club has an "intro ride" once a month which is mandatory because we cover group riding skillz (which people quickly abandon).

  • Has anyone seen an EC1 jersey in a race? 3w per kg is hardly remarkable, but they're making it sound like they only accept elite racers.

@%~} Dulwich definitely have a smashing group.

  • I wonder if motorcycle gangs have to put up with this shit?
