I think it was about £20 and took an hour or two.

BA to Barcelona, hop on train with bike box. No problem.
On top of that, sport equipment is free.
Althought some Easyjet flight may work out cheaper even with sport equipment added.

The hire car I got from BA was really cheap in comparison to the flights, it was only a Fiat 500 but if you're picking up hire bikes that's a non-issue (you can always grab a rack from the hire place, also).
Admittedly I "paid" for the whole thing with Avios points, but I was surprised at how little the rental was as a percentage of the whole.

Moultons. Any good, or overhyped?
Thinking of trying to organise a whiparound for my dad to get him a decent new bike that's a bit lighter and easier to travel with than his Dawes Galaxy tank. He's getting on, so light and wide gearing range are key. He'd much rather a bit of British engineering (he's a British engineer) than something carbon fibre that makes him feel old and unworthy. So I thought Moulton. Am I wrong?

Brompton are better value I'd say.
How far are his trips? -

How about a modern steel bike? I am of a certain age but that would be my choice.

The answer is going to depend to a large extent on what you mean by this.
he's a British engineer
If Britishness means more to him than engineering, he's not really an engineer :)
light and wide gearing range are key
Moultons are not light, the same money could knock 2kg off if you spent it on a carbon 700C bike. The gear range on the stock ones is about 4:1, which can be replicated with SRAM 1×11 road groups or exceeded with a common 2×11 compact with a mid-cage RD. Tyre choice is limited for small wheels, and big ones roll better over bumps, which can be a particularly significant issue for old bones.

Curiosities. Kinda awesome...kinda weird.
Shameless spam - buy my Airnimal instead - all the Moulton small wheeled bike issues - except it folds and is cheap. Designed in the UK, made in Taiwan...

I like my Sandisk Clip (recommended from this thread) but is there a small mp3 player that has larger storage capacity, larger battery and is waterproof?

They do come in different lengths so a longer one may still have the same minimum insertion length but be higher on the bike.

Moulton are awesome bike, and I can see the appeal of having a nice nimble small wheelers but not as easy to travel with as you think, or as light.
It's a separable bike, not folding.

z-hose extension
Witchcraft, obviously. Thanks for the tip, will look into it. I'm leaning towards the topeak as it's all silver (almost) but the extension hose thingy seems like a v good idea.

It just imitates a presta valve so it should work fine with any pump. Well worth it though, nice to know you've reached vaguely the right pressure.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for words like failover / backup / reserve / spare and would prefer I don't waste my phone battery playing mp3s but perhaps it's time to get over it and just throw a huge SD card in the phone. 128gb card in Z3 Compact?
Still need some headphones though. Where did I put that post..

• #83124
Nah, I'm entirely with you on this. Sure I have some music on my phone for when my mp3 dies but I prefer to use the right tool. Those agptek players have a good rep from people who care a lot more than I do and the battery lasts ages.

That is a possibility.... Let me measure her seat post now and see what the difference is.
