  • goes out to buy long stem

  • Just been out testing my new position.

  • Has @hippy been giving you nutritional advice?

  • Can anyone clarify why people are so pleased the 3cm rule has been scrapped? (Asides from having to sell/buy bikes to fit rule) Does it mean you can now get further forward (and open hip angle) or is it an aerodynamic thing?

  • And @umop3pisdn is giving my style advice.

  • It's just a terrible rule, that is totally unworkable.

    It's a nothing really.

  • Ok cheers. Also do people ask for position advice (posting photos) on this page or is that considered a no no? (Considering peoples response to that sort of thing on UK timetrialling & CTT?)

  • I don't pedal my bike so much as push the Earth away from me...

  • Do as you want. It's a free for all. So post away.

But I'm not sure anyone on here, or anywhere else, has any idea what they're talking about.
You need to do some aero testing. If you have a powermeter you can do it yourself.

  • It's a shit rule and there's no way to properly enforce it without going full UCI style with jigs and stuff on people's bikes before races.

  • Cheers yeah have a powermeter & found my power massively reduced (25%) in this position over a 10. Any advice would be appreciated (I realise the helmet doesn't really suit my back at all)

  • Nice bike p4! Jel.

You need a hed jet 9 and a disc. That'll give you a big saving. @umop3pisdn

You look cramped up. What's your saddle setback? Could bring it backwards. Might help get more power out. You morphology looks similar to mine, long long legs. I run a decent setback.

Nothing wrong with helmet, without testing it you won't know how it interacts drag wise.

Time in position, time in position, time in position. And not just riding around, but doing efforts.

  • I hope they do come up with a measurable, enforceable, alternative rule that has a similar end result (maybe saddle no further forward than vertical through BB AND extension no further than 50mm or 100mm from the front wheel roll-up test vertical wall). I don't think it's a good thing to allow the potential for position to differ so wildly from what's allowable by the UCI.

  • Like skinny says you do look a little cramped. Would try taking the saddle back a little and upping and lengthening the bars as your hip angle looks quite tight already (which moving the saddle back is going to tighten. Then shrug your head downwards by pointing your chin at your hands.

And then ride your tt bike in position as much as possible.

  • Cheers, got the frame for cheapz and put 6800 on it a few weeks ago. Haha most wheels would save me time compared to my planet flex wheels. Yeah saddle is pretty damn far forward (I set it to KOPS initially but realise KOPS has no real grounding at all)

Think I'll push it back 10mm or so and flip the stem to get a bit higher. Yeah I've decided zwift will be reserved for the tt bike from now on. Really keen to place a bit higher in the BUCS 25 so will get on it this week.

  • Cheers @danb will do. Appreciate the advice

  • Arguably more crossover with triathlon than the UCI. Very few UCI TT races (on TT bikes) in the UK, but plenty of triantelopes who do CTT events and vice versa.

  • Stretch out, new helmet, bigger chainring. Could come up a bit at the front. Bodypaint 3 or tripsuit.

  • TBH i don't to any indoor work in position, I can't deal with it. Well I do a bit, normally something like 3 mins on, 2 mins off during an effort. I get hot.
You need to be outside in position really, the intertia is different to indoor.

Ride in position indoors by all means, but you will have to downgrade power expectations, both due to inertia and also heat. You maybe also then find you need to transition to outdoors, as your muscle groups won't be used to riding outdoors at different inertia forces.

I think my TT bike saddle setback is 75mm. Road 80mm. Thats with my ISM. I like a big setback with my long legs.

  • I tagged you so you could flog him your wheel.

I don't think he needs to come up.*

*see what I mean, everyone has a different and just as wrong an opinion.

  • Fair point, and will probably increase participation.
My other worry is that everyone settled in a previously legal position is now effectively at a disadvantage. As there's no arbitrary line in the sand, 2017 is set to be a piss-taking arms race.

  • Because (in my mind) TTing should be closer to 'cycling' than it is to triathlon.

  • There's no running, other than running late for the start and there's no swimming unless you count British weather. The fact both sports use bikes is kind of unavoidable. Triathlon is closer to UCI rules than CTT events are anyway and the CTT rules allow for wider variety of bikes than UCI rules would permit. Then there's the time/cost of trying to enforce UCI's stupid rules. Things like saddle angle limitations, etc >>>>
