whats the current thinking with giro empires, tape over the laces with duct tape, wear velotoze or leave as they come?
-
• #15229
I'd tape over the laces. Or get proper aero overshoes.
If taping laces is good enough for Irwin, it's good enough for me. -

I had the same problem with the Vukas. The only way I could prevent slips was by using lots of Tacx assembly paste and tightening beyond the recommended torque.
-
• #15231
Looks like a bit of plastic taped on, suppose it avoids sticky laces...

I do that AND I have two zip ties looped through the pad holes to help stop them moving down. It's pretty solid but eventually will move. In fact, after the TCR I found the zip ties had broken so I hit some pretty big bumps.

My £10 velotoze are still holding up a few years in over my empires. Peeling moist rubber off your legs after an event is a special feeling though.

Yeah this is what I'm trying to avoid, think I'll just leave them bare for now...

Off up to Hull tonight for a crack at 'the course' up there tomorrow morning. Despite feeling really rough this week, still pretty excited. I've been trying to go sub-20 for over a year now, would be nice to break it this month or next as I've got to give up testing this summer. Wish me luck..

I literally have no idea what this means. How can they be so unclear.

Regulation 14(d)(ii) (the “3cm Rule”)
At the meeting of the Cycling Time Trials’ Board of directors held on Sunday 9 April 2017, photographs of competitors competing at various events, of all abilities and gender, were viewed to gauge compliance with CTT Regulation 14(d)(ii). It was identified that whilst all riders viewed were considered to be riding in a safe manner, there were many who were in breach of this Regulation, which is commonly referred to as the "3cm Rule".
In revisiting this Regulation, which was first introduced in the early 1990s to discourage riders from adopting the so called "superman" position, the Board now consider that as written, the current Regulation 14(d)(ii), is no longer "fit for purpose".
As it is not within the Board’s authority to remove or alter the Regulation without instruction from National Council, the Board agreed to introduce for the 2017 season a moratorium on applying any sanction against riders who are currently contravening this technical regulation. The Board do however retain the right to apply sanction if a rider is reported as using the "superman" or the ”tuck” position and/or is riding in a position considered to be unsafe.
The Cycling Time Trials’ Board will seek to present a proposal to the 2017 National Council meeting in December to either amend the current regulation 14(d)(ii) to reflect current machine design or to delete this section of regulation 14 in its entirety.

I thought they were applying the 3cm rule and holding people to account. But that text says they decided to 'moratorium on applying any sanction'.
They've been sending out letters?
Jesus wept.

I'm going to fish the extensions bits I cut off out of the bin and stick them back on.
-
• #15239
Got to feel for anyone who had bought a new bike and wasted time in a different position to comply.
-
• #15240
They've basically decided it's impossible to enforce, and pointless if people are still riding safely but extended more than 3cm.
Back to more subjective (and more common sense?) definitions of what is/isn't safe?

Going full superman, just watch me
-
• #15242
I literally have no idea what this means.
It means that the regulation is now confirmed by the board to be an anti-Superman measure, so anybody in breach of it must by definition be using a Superman position and can still be sanctioned :)
The 3cm rule is suspended, but in it's place is a ban on Superman which is defined by the board as any position in breach of the 3cm rule.
Regulation 14.d.ii is replaced by Catch 22, and it's the end of the rule of law in time trialling.

they decided to 'moratorium on applying any sanction'
Which they can't actually do, because it's not their job. Districts apply sanctions, and the NC can only overrule them in case of a miscarriage of justice.

Thanks, makes sense.
A little late getting to it, having been sending out letters. But better late than never. At least they put put a 'Press Release', would be nice to see them email it, if they can spam me about knight composits, they can email an important press release.
I think it makes sense now. If you think you're taking the piss, you probably are.If superman is illegal, how about tuck? Is tuck in the regulations? It is, damn.
N.B. The "tuck" position is banned because the Board believes that its widespread use will not be in the interests of the safety of riders and the welfare of the sport.

Pretty glad I haven't got around to racing yet and therefore haven't made any positional changes to the bike (let alone buying a new one).
Chalk one up for procrastination!

Same. Now i can focus on looking cool when i spot a photographer rather than pulling my elbows back.

Good luck. Smash it!
I'll be riding up there this weekend. I mean, near Hull I think, not on the 10 course.

Shiv is still hanging around, untouched since late last year.

Good luck! Club mate mentioned it looked like a strong headwind on the longer return leg which is annoying, but still - quick course so will still be fun!
Reasonably, but not ridiculously. The exocet2 has a very long top tube for it's size and I ride with the saddle in the rear mount and slammed back.
