  • Actual nerdgasm.

  • Tried one at the apple store the other day. They're sick, by far the best display I've seen. Didn't even mind the LG logo on the front as you can barely see it.

The only downer was the plasticy feel to it, but then again it's not like I'm gonna carry it around.

If apple releases something along those lines I'd be all over it

  • I guess it's time to start saving for the new Mac Pro

  • I actually liked the dark grey LG logo, was quite classy. These were obvs a stop gap product though while they sorted their displays with dual AMD 490 Fury's which I will hook up to Octocore i7 Mac mini sized space great CPU core.

    Such a fucking virgin.

  • fucking virgin

    Something something fighting for peace.

  • I can't really believe the market's there for a truly new Mac Pro. Betting on something that is rather more like a small PC design in a really nice case. Possibly rackable. Oh, and is intended for virtualising Mac OS. One of those has got to be close...?

  • They're on record saying it makes up a single-digit percentage of Mac sales.

That doesn't mean it's not important. You still need a Mac to make iOS and Mac apps and a lot of creative industries have quite a lot of history with using Apple stuff. They should absolutely have some kind of champion computer.

  • Why not a modular system? CPU case acts as the main hub, integral GPU makes it standalone, upgradable ram of course. Then plug in graphics card, sound cards , storage, etc as you need

  • Well, they sell a vast number of laptops and presumably quite a few iMacs and Minis. My question is perhaps whether anyone wants to do high end stuff on an individual desktop rather than on a shared server these days.

  • They are saying it will be modular.

  • Will there be a retina MacBook Air anytime soon, or do I remember correctly that the air is to be retired?

  • Air is dead. Long live the MacBook.

  • Is very wee, no? And less powerful than an iPad pro?

  • iPad pro doesn't run InDesign tho. Manages surfing the web semi-pro just fine. I would say 'portable' instead of wee, but once you're used to it everything else does seem a bit monster big. Screen bezel is smaller than on the air so you do get a bit more screen for your inches, but still smaller than the 13".

as I've said on this thread many times, I love mine (1st gen, 8gb ram, 1.4ghz). Gone from hating the days when I have to lug my 15" in to town to carrying this one around every time just in case.

  • they are great laptops

  • The work VPN client won't run on an iPad so that's out, it's a MacBook or MacBook pro and the later is too large I think, given that I'd still have an E7470 (which I hate).

What specification of MacBook did you get Tom?

  • updated post^^^. you're welcome to have it for a day or two, set up a profile on it and see if it runs what you need etc.

  • Have had around a dozen Macs since the 90's. MacBook Air was the most impressive in terms of being the best value for money and exactly what I needed, no more, no less.

Also I don't need fucking Retina display.

  • I cant seem to send mail from my MacBook or my phone, although they are both receiving email fine. When I try and send, I get the box asking me to confirm my password.
I know the password i am putting in is right, because i set up my new phone at the weekend and noted all the passwords down in a logical and secure manner.

  • Bin off apple mail. Use spark.

  • Amazing.
Apples made so many odd products, people forget and think they've only ever made shiney thin laptops. I can hardly believe the company that hates gpus once built a games console.

  • Been thinking about getting a refurbished 1st gen or an edu discounted 2nd gen. Probably about £200 different. Would you still buy the 1st gen if you were in the market for one today? don't expect to use it for regular editing but can it run the odd sessions of Photoshop?

  • Feeling very stupid. Just got back from holiday and I've spent the last 30 mins stressing out because the click on my MacBook wasn't working now. It moved around but no click (it did click a few times). Messed around in safe mode and with login stuff to no success. Decided to google it, first result, check you don't have a Bluetooth mouse connected with something on top of it... bingo... situation averted
