Slow progress. Some parts arrived during the week and have started making dummy hubs and stuff for dimpling stays and fork.

A good canti is much much cheaper than a good centerpull.

Hardwood is called hardwood for a reason. And dimpling was even harder than I'd thought. Did the stays first, rear triangle went out of alignment, realigned that, then forks, thought I'd go mad for a while as just when I'd gotten everything set in the vise things would go 'spoinggg' and come loose. Forks also went out of true (only laterally thank f*ck) so had to do a bit of reading and then came up with a home hacked jig/measuring thing with a string. All's well that ends well I suppose and now there's room for 38mm tyres back and front. Pics below.

Ryan, at Oak Cycles use an old Campagnolo crank arm to create the dimple.

What's the axle to crown distance on that fork? Surly make a Steamroller fork for 1" steerer.

They also make a Cross Check fork in 1" too

The problem was fitting the fork inside the jaws, a smaller vise would have made things easier. As it was I couldn't use anything as big as a crank (for instance) to make the dimple. And if this doesn't work well I'll most likely shell out for a custom fork by orlowski. Did see the surly ones but thanks. Hopefully won't need a new fork now!

Yeah I think green flite has finally found a home. Thinking about either green to white fade or yellow cloth tape. Ordered a bunch of parts today - brakes, rims, rear hub, mudguards, tyres, front rack etc. Need hubs & rims obvs before getting spokes and building the wheels.

is this a ukip bike?
That rack is tiny, like really small, enough for a couple bananas strapped to it.
Wouldn't go for it, best is p-clip with proper rack, or simply go for the WALD basket, latter is so much more functional and easy for everyday stuff.
The dual pivot brakes are pretty good, when compared to says, Paul Racer, the difference in performance is marginal for slightly more clearance.
As your bike isn't gonna go full ravadist, your current components is plentiful and work well.
