No chance, Prometheus was terrible, arrivals story was haunting at the end.

Watched Prometheus. Turns out I've seen it before. It's jus so unmemorable I didn't realise until the last 10 minutes or so.
I thought Arrival was good though. Something a bit difference which is often nice. -

Didn't rate Prometheus at all
Don't Breathe is quite good tension horror/torture flick

Logan was not an upbeat superhero movie, but we did quite enjoy it.

Been off work today sick, so I watched Good Will Hunting and Dead Poets Society whilst laid up in bed.
Fuck Robin Williams was great. -

Re-watched Prometheus and enjoyed it.
Went to see Logan last night. Was alright yeah. Never watched an X-Men before.

Just watched Logan. Thought it was pretty entertaining, some good gory fighty scenes.
Pro tip: There is no extra scene after the credits.
-
• #13309
yeah, we fell for that too, waited and waited and waited and nothing

Going to see Logan on Friday and Donkey Kong on Yoshi Island Sunday.

Arrival was excellent. Villeneuve has made one of my favourite films of the year two years running.
Only thing that bummed me out was the over the top wrap up via flash backs at the end. It didn't need to be explained (like a good joke).

and that's what makes it a mediocre movie. the big reveal is so heavily signposted it's glaringly obvious from a about halfway in. and it's got kodos and kang in it ffs!
-
• #13314
Agreed, but don't think it bothered me as much as you.
-
• #13315
And lol! Never even thought of kodos and kang!
(Kodos in 2020!)

Toni Erdmann: A lonely prankster father visits his estranged, high-powered consultant daughter.
Part cringe comedy, part social commentary (a few great putdowns) and part father daughter relationship movie, very well acted and some great scenes.

It's a lot more conventional than it likes to think it is - from there being just the one person who can help, to the relationship, to the gung-ho soldiers, to the sudden moments of inspiration. The opening line sounded like a product placement for Hallmark cards. Then again, many of the people who liked it liked The West Wing so there's no hope really.

The West Wing is great, isn't it?
I agree it's conventional (although not sure what you mean about the relationship. Very little of it is done via the actual story, and is instead largely revealed through his absence in the flash backs. Which is kind of neat). But yeah, I don't disagree, and maybe that's what makes the extended story break down at the end a bit over the top.

Spoiler alert: man and woman go to work on important government project. Outcome: inevitable!

The ninth configuration: Unusual.
It's very theatrical, the depiction of mental illness isn't realistic. But that's not the point of it, as it's a movie about ideas. Worth a watch if you are into that sort of thing. The acting / lighting is outstanding.
(Can't beat celluloid and no digital adjustment after...)

9th Config is ace! Watched The Young Offenders tonight. Hilarious.

Logan - has all the ulttaviolence you have wanted since day 1 and is very entertaining.
Kong Skull Island - enjoyable enough but fairly flimsy, hinted at a few bits and then never delivered on them.
Got Free Fire coming up on Wednesday, which i know little about but am looking forward to (Ben Wheatley so am primed for weirdness)

I've never really understood the Ben Wheatley fanfare. I really want to. But I just can't. His adverts/comic sketches were fun and he's obviously enthusiastic - I just can't help thinking that Down Terrace, Kill List, AFIE, Sightseers, High Rise are all a bit... shit. I have higher hopes for Free Fire but I think it's an unusual choice as far as career progression goes.
Said someone on the internet who's never made a feature film.
On the subject of career progression - from The Kings of Summer to King Kong... How?
(Loved Prometheus too)
...and Ghost In The Shell. Excite
