  • I'm going to keep it totally standard. I did start thinking about a front disc conversion, telescopic dampers, anti-tramp bars and a Stage 2 Oselli engine on a Weber 45 (I even bought a Weber manifold for an A-series) but I've decided against it. New wood, plenty of new metal, and a new interior but all completely standard.

  • the b is in for an underseal at the moment and i am getting a price off the dude for a respray and chopping off the bumpers.

anyone had a car painted recently of know someone?

i was going to have a go myself (with a practice on the racer), but circumstances have changed, so i will get someone else to do it on the green car.

  • Where are you getting it done? did you speak to the MX5 Restorer?

  • Er doesn't someone have a spray booth ;)

  • armortex the shizzle.

    BR Green EVERYFKNTHING.

  • Youknowsit...

  • nah - i just spoke to the mg dude near sarah's folks' place. good guy.

just tossing up whether of not to do it myself on the green car.

i need to weld a bit under the tail lights, and a bit under the indicator and cut the front bumper mounts off.

i prob need advice on whether or not it needs to go back to bare metal, as it has micro blisters all over because i think the last dude painted it in the rain.

  • Not sure if this is the best thread to ask, but does anyone use the CoPilot navigation app? It has an annoying feature whereby it will launch a pop-up to force the point thag you need to be in a particular lane. The only way to dismiss it is to touch the screen, which is obviously dangerous and, from today, likely (more) illegal. Might just have to stick to Googlemaps...

  • I've taken a week off to do some work on the rally project.

So far i have scraped off a load more sealer from the passenger inside wheel arch, stitched the chassis leg, gearbox mount, and strut top to match, repaired a hole in the bulkhead, blanked off the old fuse box hole and made a start repairing the mess that the old pedal box left.

  • I have four days of cut/weld/sand in front of me. That gives me inspiration.

  • Does anyone change between winter/summer tyres with one set of rims?

If so is it as much of an arse-ache as I suspect it would be?

  • I found it enough of a bum pain with a spare set of rims. Still, I suppose if you found a tyre fitter that served a decent coffee and could swap them while you wait it might not be that bad.

  • Half an hour twice a year at Kwik Fit isn't all that much effort is it?

My local place charges £10 for a fit and balance and you can get all four tyres in a 996 so long as you don't have any passengers. Just take a blanket for the seats.

  • Quite a few companies (AA) etc fit tyres at the home now. Just type in details and order online.

  • As if you haven't already bookmarked a 'bay search for an additional set of rims!

I find the local-ish tyre establishment favoured by the local taxi drivers most accomodating,
but then I don't need performance tyres on the Grand Espace.

  • Space, the final frontier - at least, it is when it comes to my garage. I don't think I can store a second set of wheels, I might be able to store tyres (same external dia but you can fill the middles with stuff).

  • Porsche don't have a Euro2499 wall/ceiling Winter wheel conveyor mounting system?

  • The underside of my garage roof is covered in hanging bicycle wheels.

  • No storage either side of the inspection pit?

I am fortunate that my garage is overlength, so the spare set of rims/tyres 'live' underneath a workbench, (Old kitchen worktop), purposefully frog down, to ensure nothing that would delay their swapping/fitting is stored within the annular void.

  • Mmmm, annular void.

  • Tyre hotel?

    Ah-hah!

Now I just need to get a set of wheels from Yorkshire...
