  • Why? It is a very common thing to do when leaving goodwood.

  • I think that is the worst, I have spent may hours provoking cars to overteer/drift what ever you want to call it and found that when the car does something you are not expecting then it is a bit dangerous.

  • I would say the a30 and a35 are interesting when fitted with a marina 1275 ;)

    Think the Italian track has a 'thing' that you drive over that moves left or right to teach you how to control a car that goes in to a slide.

  • The seal at the base of my windscreen had, at some point in the past, been folded in on itself in one 3" section. I have unfolded it but at either end of the fold the rubber has distorted into a small peak- which holds the seal off the screen, allowing a small amount of water to roll down the screen past the seal.

    How can I relax the seal so that it is sitting flat against the glass again?

  • That's as mabes, but yes when I drove 360 and 911 turbo back to back I far preferred the Porsche.

  • You may be lucky, and the extrusion has a shape memory, that it will (slowly) relax back to.

    'Slowly' dependent upon available energy, UK late Winter, it will never warm up, till the Summer.

    Gentle heat, (probably not the heat guns recommended on here for paint removal), might speed up the process.

    Alternatively if the fold has been trapped 'for years' it may never return to its desired shape.

  • Hah, no- I'll borrow the Mrs hairdryer and see if that works first. New hood is happening and that's a few quid.

  • The old panda was quite fun...when lowered with the springs from a Y10 turbo...actaually the y10 turbo proof there can be too much power. 1050 block with a 1301 head and a IHI turbo and intercooler with bypass valves like a formula 1 car.

  • Old winscreen rubber, I doubt it. The peaks are the rubber stretching.

  • Dammit I can reccomend Harrison Trimming in West Kingsdown for hood replacement and any seat trimming Jonathan and Andy are excellent trimmers, give them a ring tomorrow for a quote, I just messaged him a heads up for a quote.

  • The glass window hood is a good investment. The plastic windows never ever look any good. Down here they yellow, crack and go foggy in about 2 weeks.

  • That one in particular could break your heart. I'd never buy a Cat D car unless I was doing the work myself. That guy just buys fucked ones and then gums them back together and I've see some of his handy work. Dampers on the back of one were fitted right way up on one side and then upside down on the other?! How can you get shit like that wrong?!

    A regular Chimera in the early teens may need a bit spending on it but aside from chassis work (which is where it can get expensive) you wouldn't go too far wrong with one. I still think you'd spend less maintaining one than a 996.

  • Apologies for separate reply but catching up with the thread after a few days. Can't remember how the hoods fold on 911's but on Chimeras and Griffs we used to recommend keeping a towel handy for the plastic rear screen. When you'd fold the roof down the plastic would get a severe kink and could get that haze on them but by padding it out with a towel you could prevent it from marking as badly.

    I also remember a company advertising in the back of Classic&Sportscar who sold a solution for polishing these marks out.

  • What are your plans for it? My dad bought one for my mum last year that had all new wood relatively recently but needed a floor. The plan was to fix it, slot a 1275 in it and then use it from spring to summer for my mums short commute. However, a spanner was thrown in the works when he found a lovely white one that was mint which he ended up buying just before Christmas. He may still put the 1275 in that but essentially its on the button and almost too nice to start messing around with.
