  • I'd take Tony Blair as Prime Minister over Theresa May.

Anyone with a brain who was able to step back and look at the bigger picture would.

I can't be arsed to find all the achievements of Labour while he was in office again but it's a huge list. But no the liberal left are always IRAQ MAN like that was the only thing that ever happened during his tenure.

  • Ooh, and nicer weather too. Any idea what the Rwandan job market's like, I hear there's great cycling out there?

  • Yeah, I mean, what's a few hundred thousand dead people when we got dat sweet PFi. Have a word.

  • I knew you'd bite on that. Iraq was wrong yes - and that's not news. But the left's hatred for Blair and the narrative of his whole premiership as a failure (which is totally untrue) is one of things that opened the door for David Cameron. That's part of what I mean by the bigger picture.

Peace in Northern Ireland, every A&E modernised, a minimum wage, devolution, huge steps towards equality, progressive welfare policies, significant investment in education, Sure Start, etc. etc. etc. Blair changed the very landscape of Britain and I would say largely for the better. Characterise it as sweet PPI and you're doing the Tories work for them.

More importantly he made Labour electable - how's Corbyn doing with that?

  • Legacy tho .. you do 100 things right and 1 wrong and are remembered for that one wrong'un

    I am with you.

  • Sri Lanka

My country of birth, I'm interested to see them on the list, the Tamil's might not agree.

  • Nor would the athiest bloggers getting hacked to death with machetes.

  • blair wants a mass movement does he? guess he's still getting back to these people.

rise up against brexit by all means, but not at the behest of this specious cunt

  • Yet the gap between rich and poor grew significantly under Blair, he placed Labour to the right of the Libdems on pretty much every policy and took Labour voters' votes for granted by sticking two fingers up and saying "who the fuck else you gonna vote for, suckers?" - all while lining his pockets...

  • Be interesting to see (if such a thing were possible) a map of the UK graded by benefit from his government, if that makes sense?

= I'm just watching the people of Stoke saying they're voting UKIP as Labour has done nothing for them, and immigrants have ruined the NHS.

  • Didn't he do some shit in the Balkans and Rwanda too?

  • Agree with what you are saying, however, Blair will only ever be remembered for Iraq and as such he would be more effective for the Remain camp if he started batting for Leave.

  • that list is measuring the safety of tourists and businesses so not particularly reliable.
Global peace index puts UK 47th overall. 26th in EU above Cyprus and Greece.
    Sri Lanka is 97th.

  • Right now it's booming.

  • that list is measuring the safety of tourists and businesses so not particularly reliable.

Woow, not particularly reliable would be something of an understatement.

  • what's even more tragic is blair's weapons grade hubris and deluded sense of self-importance honestly leads him to believe that he is doing the remain crowd a favour by opening his yap.

  • I don't think you can look at the Iraq war and go, yeah, it was just one mistake.... 66000 Civilians died ! that being said if we had had a tory government at the time they wouldn't have done anything differently, faint praise is damming and all that.

  • That's true. And I do agree that his 'mission' on Brexit is misguided and will not be helpful.

I'm no Blairite but I am a Labour supporter and I don't think constantly denigrating the history of the party helps anyone. Except the Tories.

  • No as @Stonehedge says his foreign policy was generally very misguided. But you can't blame all the deaths in Iraq on Blair either - the U.S. would have gone in anyway and they have a much bigger military than we do. Iraq was as much about Blair being too chummy with Bush as anything else. I see worrying echos of that now in our hand-holding PM and her U.S. equivalent.

  • Wow, pointing out a few uncomfortable facts about a past leader is being unhelpful but have nothing good at all to say about the current leader is...

  • I'm no Blairite

    colour me unconvinced...

constantly denigrating the history of the party helps anyone. Except the Tories.

but constantly denigrating the future of the party is A-OK? Corbyn's all over the fucking shop and his stance on brexit has been disappointing to say the least - frankly the old fart's between a rock and a shit sandwich, but not uniting behind him by at least not kicking him in the balls at every opportunity helps the tories even more.

  • If people feel unsafe in the UK then they wont be safer anywhere else. The UK is one of the safest places in the world to live so while I welcome all if you dont feel safe you are free to move and not be any safer anywhere else.

Only if you're a white abled male from here.

  • ...realistic given his abysmal approval ratings?
