The sprint shifters plug into extra ports on the brifters, they don't work as standalone shifters. From what I've read they don't appear in the eTube program, so they're just peripherals for the brifters.
An observation - my rear mech doesn't appear in the e-tube system, it still works though.

Carlton Bale says 'SW-R610 Dura-Ace Sprint Shifter: This is the only component using a unique wiring connector; it is only compatible with the ST-9070 Dura-Ace and Ultegra ST-6870 Road Dual Control Brake Levers/Shifters. Unlike all of the other shifters, the sprint shifters do not contain a circuit board; they do not show up as components on the CAN bus network. Instead, the sprint shifters are simple momentary switches that activate the circuit board on the host Dual Control Brake Lever/Shifter. The host dual control lever is what sends the shift command. (Note: Any momentary switch can be attached to the sprint shifter port on the Dual Control Levers by splicing into a standard EW-SD50 wire to act as remote shifters.)'
As yet, I have yet to find that Carlton Bale is wrong about anything Di2 related, and so for present purposes I'm assuming he's correct. If you'd like to try and prove him wrong, however, then get in there sunshine. Report back ASAP.

Who am I to doubt Carlton? I would like to run sprint shifters with R-785's though, I was hoping to use a four port/small rectangle junction box into the XTR display unit, but that may not work per your post above.

If I'm already running 6770, am I likely to have any issues with wiring channels for 6870?
Concerned there'll be no hole from the seat tube to let the magic electricity out to the mechs. Am I being a daft twat?

Presume you mean 6700 (ie mechanical) rather than 10speed ultegra di2?
As for the hole, it's easily solved: -

In that case you don't even need to change the cables to and from the mechs - just change the Junction A and the mechs and you're good to go.

Shouldn't need to change the front junction, unless it's on an ancient firmware version.

We know what you mean, but 1st gen 10 speed Di2 was the Dura-Ace with the bigger connectors that's not compatible with the newer e-tube Di2.

I'll be drilling myself to fit the old Di2 to a steel frame. Should be good fun.

Where are the di2 wires routed in this arrangement? I'm guessing the junction box is under the BB or something but can't work out how the cables get from the shifters into the frame. Can't be arsed doing it myself, just curious really.

The rear brake housing looks like it has the wires shrink wrapped to it.

Looks like heat shrink on rear brake cable entering TT then DT via HT .. maybe.
