• I've not had a frame done in years with them. I was properly impressed with both i had.

  • My armortex experiences have generally been good, fucked if I am going to their new place though, it's miles away

  • Last frameset I took cost my £40 at my LBS to get both BB an HT faced + threads chased... on top of the Armourtex costs...

Was that before or after they closed their bike shop?

When I had a frame resprayed about 7 years ago, none of the above were faced and chased.

  • The person that bought all of Armoutex's inventory, Shaf has finally come clean and said he will NOT be doing bike frames any more (well his assistant did). Shame as I went to Armourtex on the last week they were open and sadly they weren't taking anymore orders. :((((

We want an iridescent finish but chromflair® is very pricey (though Hoops can do it but theres a bit of a delay and I wanted the frame finished before it's owner goes away for Christmas). This is was the favoured finish of Armourtex's power coat range:

So I'm now try to find a suitable alternative. I'll try Mr Vaz. Also Colecoatings but it was their chromaflair quote above that makes me think they'll cost more for powercoating than the others. Anyone else care to comment?

  • @countryboj

Did you get a Mini Denti in some kind of 2 tone colour? If so, could you possibly post some images, either here and tag me or via PM?

    Cheers

  • Anyone know of another powder coaters or have any contact details for the original guys, as Mario cannot do the finish pictured above.

He did say he could a chrome flair job but it price seems too good to be true. I'd love to hear from anyone that has had that job done by him.

Little update: Colecoating do not powder coat, just luscious paint.

  • @Multi_Grooves i'm trying to get to Vaz this week. Possibly tomorrw. I've got a pressing desire/need/ father fucking christmas to get a frame done in pink / purple sparkles. I went to armourtex last week to find they were closed.

I spoke with cole coatings and they're super pricy. but nice.

I'm just echoing your findings here really aren't i?

  • Guys,

A good paintjob costs money. Simple as. You get what you pay for. a lot of man hours go into a good finish, more than I would imagine most people on this forum would understand.

It's like saying you want a Rapha jersey, but only want to pay Decathlon money.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

  • Wrap that shit yo.

  • Hi all,

I'm sure as a few of you know, I own a bike refinishing business.

    We can do powder-coat

I'd be happy to offer a powder-coat price for LFGSS users? If you let me know what sort of finish you are after and what price Armourtex charged, I'll see if I can match it?

We're based in Leicestershire, so any frames would have to be sent via courier.

We can also do workshop jobs; facing and chasing, BB removal etc

  • Apparently, 70 quid for a powder coat at Vaz. Perfect for what I need.

  • Hi mate,

    I just emailed you....

I'm not questioning the standard of anyone's work...in fact I was worried that Mr Vaz was potentially undercharging for his work. Given historical concerns with his work there are reasons for that.
The basis for my lament is that I was only about 3 days away from getting Armourtex to do the job we really wanted at a very good price [in relation to the value of the frame]. The fiasco with the buyers of armourtex's stock and them refusing to do bikes having promised to is a pain. Armourtex were very streamlined for what they were doing and even had in-house bike people who knew the score in regards to stripping frames and generally how to handle shit. These new guys are all about industrial work as are most of the other firms I've found which, adds a bit of concern plus when sending frames that aren't in London I fear the hamfists. You only have to look at the colour tech thread here to see how things can go bad at the hands of someone that is a bike person.

  • Anyone know somewhere that can chemically remove paint from frame (acid dip?).

  • The website for Armourtex says they still powdercoat frames and forks, just won't be doing any mechanicing, so bikes have to be stripped before sending to them.
    Or have I missed something?

  • I would recommend Vaz anytime, great price and a top bloke to deal with.

I'm not entirely sure but I think he's done @6pt's serrota fade and he's done a great job. (I'm sorry if I'm terribly mistaken)

If you're in London just pay him a visit, he seems very busy and does a lot of high end frames, colnago/ hetchins/ merkx whicj only shows the quality of his work.
    Only my five pence

  • Has anyone tried this place just off the old Kent Road? I think they powder coat freddie grubb frames so should have plenty of experience with bikes.

    Correct

  • Anyone had forks chromed before? Will that place on Old Kent Road do it?

  • Yes I got some forks chromed there a few years ago. Nice job they did too.

  • Anybody know how would be the go to painter or powder coater for a sparkly glittery finish on a njs frame?

  • Does Mario have the ability to reproduce decals, or do these need to be sourced beforehand?
