  • I got given (lucky me) a pair of disc wheels that have been used extensively in the cross season.
rims look fine, hubs need a service. but i was hoping to reuse the pair as a fixiewixie wheelset on the pompetamine.

What's the worst that could happen?
    apart from death. obvs.

  • Anyone know any London bike shops stocking R460s?

  • Unlikely? But Madison have them in stock.

  • Spokes will be fine for the reason given by @umop3pisdn but chain line might be a problem if you're using road cranks, IIRC it's about 52mm if you bolt a sprocket onto a 135mm rear hub. Should be fine with MTB cranks.

  • Not all of them are dished because of a disc... which is why I have an unused offset rim in my lounge. :S

  • I have road cranks.

    Sigh.

    So.
    135mm rear fixed hub/wheel then.

Or just use the front from the pair I was gifted.
    BUT MISMATCH.

  • Tarmac or off-road?

  • Thinking of building up some of these rims: http://bor-germany.de/en/product/129-xmd366-29er-380-g#tab-specs-weights

Ideally to build a 1400g(ish) wheelset to replace the boat anchors I've got on the Rych - what hubs/spokes combination? 11 speed shimano groupset. Novatec, DT Swiss etc.

  • What is the rider mass?

  • Does anyone know a 135mm non-disc rear hub for campag? I have a 135mm spaced touring frame and a campag groupset which I want to use together

  • Yes. Not pointed, I saw this:
Cross Country / Marathon / AllMountain Light

and the rim seems light so was intrigued.

  • 88kg but rims are 32 drilling so thinking should be sturdy enough. Is it possible to build 1400g wheelset with these rims?

Wheels will be used for all road, gnarmac and maybe a lil mud

  • Cycleworx in southfields. They carry stock of some proper nice kit, yokozuna, wolf tooth, powertap, suzue, and anything soma you can name

  • 1400 might be a struggle. If you have the money gun, DT 240 centrelock and CX Rays would get you to around 1450g on a good day. Fairly sure there are some Stans rims lighter than those that could get you nearer 1400?

  • @Thuekr A bit of off-road gravel, but mostly tarmac.

  • "Have you got any R460?"
"We only stock Mavic and IRD"
"Do you know you have a website?"

  • what did they say?
    what did they say?

  • What drilling you need?

  • So I'll probably need carbon if I'm going to hit that weight and not get out the money gun.

    puts away money gun

  • If youre not absolutely set on that weight, 1600g wheelsets can be built up much cheaper. My bitex centrelock on wtb i21 was only ~£220 all in for 1700ish grams. Cx rays would have got me sub 1600 i think

  • I'm looking to build a wheelset for my Cotic Escapade and am confused as what to do for a front hub. @mdcc_tester recommended a superstar hub, but it doesn't appear to come with a skewer.

Is this something I need to purchase separately? The frame didn't come with one, and the fork doesn't have a thread as seen in the attached image.

You shouldn't have to. With through-axles, responsibility for the hub retaining device has shifted from the hub maker to the frame/fork maker. As Cotic seem to have forgotten that, you probably want one of these

  • Cotic also sell one for about £10, if I recall correctly. DT Swiss also sell a more expensive one.

Out of interest, as I'm interested in 9mm thru bolt hub, what's the recommended Superstar Components one?
