She won't be a barrister.

Who's paying Ms Bright then?
-
• #7230
I wasn't sure how it worked, whether at this stage in front of magistrates you can bring in heavy artillery lawyers who defended torturers.

Driver goes round to passenger door to retrieve mobile from passenger seat. She presumably threw it onto the seat after the impact.

It is odd. She is heavy artillery. She appeared for the driver that Martin Porter attempted to prosecute. It also sounds like she is attempting to use the absolute guff that the ACPO used several years ago as guidance to pretty much dismiss any allegation that was supported with video evidence; the police, CPS and courts have moved on since then. She will also cost about ten times more than the driver stood to lose in fines. Who is paying for this - newspaper deal?
-
• #7233
Is she using it as a way to get her name out there in the media to build a rep like Mr Poophole
-
• #7234
No, I don't think so. She already has all the exposure and recognition she needs in her field - she walked away from a high profile government inquiry. This is more like a film star rocking up in the Legs Akimbo minibus.

Who knows? I doubt she's publicly funded, but a private benefactor, life savings, newspaper deal are all possibilities. Its also possible Ms Bright has taken the case on a pro bono basis. Ultimately, however, funding is a between her and Ms Bright unless she's managed to wangle a representation order. If she's got the cash then Ms Bright has to take the case as a result of the cab rank rule.

Ah, that's what I wondered, who chose whom. Can a newspaper pay for a rottweiler lawyer? They can't reward criminals but I suppose she's not a criminal at this stage.

Can't see any reason why they can't pay her for her story and she uses the money to pay for legal representation. It might well be contrary to some newspaper code of conduct, but then they all ignore them anyway.

Or a wealthy private individual with a bone to pick eg Martin schreki or however you spell it, the trump funding, self hating homophobe cunt.

Is it legal to work as scooter delivery driver for the likes of deliveroo, dominoes etc on L plates? Shouldn't they need a proper license if they are making a living out of it?
-
• #7243
Think it must be fine. I'm always amused when encountering the London blood delivery moped drivers with L plates. You'd think a cargo as precious as that would warrant someone a little more qualified. This site even admits it's the norm :
City Sprint Healthcare operate a number of mopeds carrying ‘urgent blood delivery’ wording in central London. Most of them carry L-plates.
-
• #7244
I've seen courier boxes where they've designed the L-plate into the graphics on the back. It's pretty much the norm.
You still need to pass a test before you're allowed to ride, even with L plates.
-
• #7245
Nah, you need to complete a "compulsory basic training" which you can't fail, if you're that bad they just ask you to come back again.

On newspapers paying for stories, I have a little experience. I highly doubt that's happening here. These days stories have to be decent to warrant getting the chequebook out. This is just momentary fluff. And as it's going to court you can cover it all for free anyway...

A10 this morning going south coming up to Liverpool Street- Lorry in outside lane decides to indicate left an then start moving over while I am 2/3rds of the way up his lorry. I look up, make eye contact with him in the wing mirror and give him a friendly wave, I'm here, kind of thing. Instead of slow down and hang back he instead lurches over- cue a sharp tap on his passenger window as I am now alongside the cab. Driver stops, we are shouting at each other, and then as I pull round the front of him he lunges the vehicle at me- I lost my shit. It was almost like an out of body experience I could see myself climbing up the side of his cab screaming and shouting, hanging onto the open window. Usually I am pretty chilled or will get it out of my system with a couple of shouts but today was different.
Fast forward to getting to work, have now reported him on roadsafe, found out that it is a hired vehicle, tracked that further to find that the vehicle is currently being operated by Delice de France, and will be taking it up with them once the chap returns my call.
In the meantime driver of DAF lorry PN15 HRR is a total prick, avoid.

i believe it is down to their insurance whether they should be delivering on L-plates as I think it's prohibited in the general policy wording that they use the vehicle for commercial use so are in effect driving uninsured by doing so.

Sounds terrifying. Glad you are OK. It's one thing to suspect they are trying to kill you, another thing when they do it deliberately.

This has been posted already right?
Seems a lot of people have signed it to see it fail. My cousin signed it, so it appeared on my facebook. I wouldn't ride a bike near my cousin.
