get a stud connector
Ah, good idea.
I wouldn't bother to relieve the back to sit close to the tube. Welding will easily bridge the gap, and you won't lose any of the threads.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up. May still go for it: gives me an excuse to update my files and if its wonky, it'll be getting on my nerves.

I know somebody's first name and surname and that he works in the Virgin group. Trying to work out his email address. Does anyone know their email address formats?
(i.e. richard.branson@virgin.com or r.branson@virgin.com, r_branson@virgin.co.uk etc etc.) -

have you tried googling them?
My internal email address comes up on a load of 'confidentialish' internal documents when I do it. -
• #79706
Depends on where within the group they work. Generally full names with a prefix on the domain end.
e.g.:
richard.branson@fly.virgin.com
Edit for clarity: Having dealt with Virgin it's definitely first.name@domain.virgin.com for all those I've been in contact with.

I've seen a few big companies doing really cryptic email addresses with no discernable pattern, so if your name was Jane Doe it might be
doeja@company.com
but John Smith might get
smijohn@company.com
And some companies give their CEO firstname@company.com

Not bike related, but why do modern coffee shops not make cappuccinos with froth anymore? You ask for one, then you get handed a latte, with the milk art.
It is like that in the majority of coffee shops now. -

Forum hive mind. I need some suggestions for a venue.
I'm hosting an all day meeting in London on the 5th of December. 5 attendees flying a very long way to be here. They're coming from California, Sydney, Vancouver, Czech Republic and Sweden just for this face to face.
Can anybody think of a nice place to hire for the day?
I don't mind spending good money but it can't be too big. I really object to spending lots of ££££ to sit in a crappy hotel meeting room all day. I've seen windowless rooms in Waterloo with a meeting table going for £1000 for the day.
The meeting is going to last all day and although it will be informal I can see it getting quite intense. The delegates quite like the idea of a riverside pub function room or something suitably relaxed but in a nice location. Any ideas?

I really like the rooms at the top of the Tate Modern. Ace views and you have the cafe for lunch which is actually pretty good.

Thanks mate, i'll look into it

You can have my place. Comes with optional bike hire and more beer than they can drink.

We've got one night in Vegas lined up - mostly out of curiosity. Not much of a gambler.
Where should we stay?

Adding disc tabs to a non disc steel frame. This is only an idea at the moment.
But weld or braze?
I assume brazing is plenty strong enough but a fat tig weld would make me feel more comfortable -
• #79718
Neither.

• #79719
But either way the weld or braze won't be the weak point, the unreenforced tubing it's attached to probably is.

Oh. Almost nothing to see in Vegas. I've done company conferences and trade shows there. Nice for a bit of freak show, but the hotel casinos get depressing pretty quickly. Only ever at stayed at the Aria.
What alternative options do you have to Vegas? If none they go for the most interesting hotel you can afford. It is quite expensive as a city so expect sticker shock.

It would have a brace, my question is about attaching the mount.

• #79722
Belts then.
-
• #79723
Yea...only one night :)
We'll have a motor so could go somewhere else in the vicinity.
Aria is on the long list.
Heading over to the Grand Canyon for hikes then down towards LA and San Diego.

@mdcc_tester
Perusing the Wera catalogue I noticed they now have bits for Torx Plus,
penta-lobed, as opposed to the hexa-lobed (normal) Torx.
Is there any mechanical advantage for the penta- option,
or,
is it just a slight security feature and a method for the screw/bolt manufacturers to make more than just a commodity return? -

I liked the pyramid one. My mate liked the Rock & Roll one. I won most money in the Bellagio.
Personally I'd skip it and spend more time on the coast.
If you're just doing a practical (rather than pretty) weld on job, I wouldn't bother to relieve the back to sit close to the tube. Welding will easily bridge the gap, and you won't lose any of the threads. A good close fit across the whole joint surface is only really necessary if you're brazing the lug onto the tube.
If you want lots of thread so that you have some length to play with to make it pretty, get a stud connector
