  • Have you plugged it in via USB and had a look at what files are in there for that date?

^ sorry, refresh fail - I guess you've done that.

  • I'm just trying to sort out my new Aldi special @hippy approved Edge 810.
Gone on openstreetmap site for some maps, this one: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/
But its not giving me an option to enter my email address in the 'Request your map or download it directly', bit. Any ideas? What am I missing? Am I being a bell?

  • Have you chosen your map? from the drop downs?

Here is a link I have just created on the site, this is for the uk
    http://osm.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/garmin/generic/08-10-2016/33bdec44a232a182aaf17122e9cedf4e/

  • Yeah picked the map. (Europe-United Kingdom) but don't get the email address option.

That link sends me to the next screen I get if i click 'Download map now!'

    ??

  • Have you highlighted map segments? Ah, you're using the dropdown, nevermind.

  • If you have a predefined country it should load a folder where you can download the map files. Have you selected fietsmap?

    "country: Italy
    version: 08-10-2016

  • It works for me on Firefox but not on Chrome.

  • If you're getting the next screen you want to download osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip

Just right click and Save link as

  • @hippy yeah Im downloading the zip from the next page. See if that works.

    Yep on Chrome. Cheers @aggi

  • One thing to be wary of, OSM seems to cause Garmins to crash. I suspect @6pt had it right when he pointed out that they pack a lot more information in (locations, POIs etc etc) than the official maps, and the devices maybe struggle to process it.

Might be best to use smaller segments as required

  • Garmin topo maps of the US are very good, once you've gone through the hellish process of getting the god damn thing onto your Garmin, strong recommend if you're going to be cycling the mountains.

  • I'm going to end up paying £££ aren't I.
I don't think I'll need any US maps anytime soon. Just Mainly UK.
I had a quick half hearted play with it last night. The OS map is on the 810 and enabled I just couldn't actually get any map to come up on the screen. Maybe I wasn't patient enough to give it enough time to search for satellites (or whatever it needs to do). I'll have another go tonight.

  • Only have the map enabled that you are using. Having multiple maps enabled seems to make redrawing of the screen much slower.

  • Ah ok. Makes sense. I think I've just got the map I downloaded from OS (Entire UK) and the crap one that came installed on the Garmin. I'll check and disable anything but the OS one I want. Cheers.

  • Make sure the map is enabled.
    Zoom in.

  • That's what I've been saying for ages.

  • I used US OSM maps for a car Garmin and it worked ok. I like the fact that Garmin proper maps search on postcodes though. This feature kills OSM maps.

  • i just recently got a mac and when i plug in my 1000 to put a route on it, it never recognises it as a drive. it does charge the edge, just doesn't recognise it as a drive...

    ...can someone please help?

  • What OS do you have on the Mac? (El Capitan did the same thing to me until, I think, patch #3, or a later Garmin update fixed it - I updated both at the same time so I'm not sure which actually fixed it, they both blamed each other!) . Mac forums seems to be full of similar 'drive not recognised' issues throughout the ages (although Garmin hardly have a flawless record themselves)..

  • i just installed the snazzy new one, can't remember what it's called....

hmmm will have a google and see if i can find a fix. will report back if so

  • FFS. Having spent about 15 mins when i was trying to get out for a cheeky ride before work trying to get it sorted, I just tried again and it's now decided to work!
    Hate technology

  • Has anyone had problems with their Garmin not measuring distance?

Watch tells me GPS is ready and will measure everything else fine, but not distance.

    Anyone know why this is?

  • What do you mean not measuring it? Do you mean it doesn't show on screen? Or do you mean after downloading you don't have any track?
