  • I was running 28's at around 60psi in Crete and had no issues in the gravel (with the pressure at least, I would have liked some 38's)

  • amey sent me this link earlier to solve a problem I have, so his 'no' answer at #302 seems a little contradictory.
you meant the other way around, didn't you.

A Bowman Pilgrims came through my door this morning. Being built up in an @amey specced by-the-numbers fashion. First new bike in ages, my first foray into disc. I have no idea what I'm doing.

  • its the other way round .. PM caliper on flat mount forks is possible

  • Copycat.

  • I was actually surprised to find out that the fork is flat mount on your Bowman .. not mentioned anywhere! The frame is post mount right?

  • ah, but mine isn't blue.

(grabbed the last one they had in the sale. just hanging bits on it for now, postie has a bit more work to do before I can build it proper.)

  • I was surprised too! All the pics of them online have post mount forks. Weird. Frame is post mount.

  • those valve lengths will cost insta likes ..

  • Photoshop.

  • I seem to remember reading a study* that concluded lower pressures increased hysteresis, but this was pretty much exactly offset by reduced rolling resistance.

There will be a net loss on the #aeroiseverything front (not that I care, as I just don't ride that fast/far), and bigger tyres pretty inevitably mean increased mass (so more effort to accelerate).

For sheer enjoyment of riding, I've sworn off anything narrower than 40c (unless I can be guaranteed pristine new tarmac, or the boards of a velodrome).

    *ETA: Might have been @mdcc_tester

  • I spoke to them on the phone and they said they are post mount =/. Are you fitting an adaptor to the front?

  • The site says post mount too. It was a bit of a surprise. Going to have to source an adapter. Budget build slowly ramping in price *sigh*

  • Thats what I meant!

  • oh so you have post mount calipers? If so they will go on a flat mount frame/fork. Flat mount calipers wont go on post mount frame/forks.

  • Doesnt matter anyway, cos as if by magic, I got the email I'd been waiting for and GRD fork has been purchased.

  • Mine is arriving today. Who knows what combo I'll get.

  • No, I got FM calipers (So Matt tells me anyway!)
    I'm confused now.

  • Direct mount deraileurs!

I thought they had announced this already

As well as finally getting the memo that road deraileurs have reached their local maxima

  • No, I got FM calipers (So Matt tells me anyway!)

    I'm confused now.

Flatmount caliper on post mount frame / fork = no

Post Mount caliper on flat mount frame / fork = yes, with adapter

  • Got a spare adapter lying around? :P

  • I don't have any flat mount things

  • I'm glad I was ahead of the curve in being confused about post mount / flat mount.

  • But frustrated I'm still waiting for the frame and fork ordered yonks ago whilst every Tom, Dick and Harry builds a sweet disc gavel biek.

  • china carbon gravel?

  • I impulse bought this frame on Sunday evening and I'm only missing rotors and handlebars now (and post mount adapter). It's taking ages.
