  • He's a very classy ultrarunner. He's also done Spartathlon, Badwater, Arch2Arc and is currently training for the 6633 (350 miles in the Arctic). We did a 2-man Channel swim a few years back

    Read somewhere that more people have been on the summit of Everest than have swum the Channel.

    Edit - just found another interesting fact. On a single day in 2012, 234 people summited Everest. c.50 solo Channel swims happen each year.

  • Back to the hills. Fun if tough at times. Covered some of High Peak 40 route, float day for that race today, had me briefly wishing I'd entered it instead of dtd.

    Kit setup now spot on. Sweaty back from rucksack but guess not sweating = not trying.

    Almost... waterproof gloves (latex workshop under usual?) & possibly a sub 100g powerbank (looked at juicetube 68g in EE shop but gets 1star on 1/3 amaxon reviews).

    Anyone using owt similar of either they'd recommend?

  • Good elevation chart. Looks like a solid training run.

    I've managed to get a few weeks training under my belt, coupled with some cycle commuting and am beginning to feel the benefit. Run the same time at Dulwich parkrun two weeks in a row, this week wasmore comfortable and I tagged on 2 miles at tempo pace. Not long until the cross country season.

    Am also considering the endurancelife Dorset half marathon, not ready for a marathon or more yet.

  • ^ saw you were running again on popular gps logger app. Glad it's coming back.

    All the enthusiasm for xc nationals in my club (when asked at back end of last xc season) seems to have gone. Hopefully first fixtures will get people interested again in time for us to register as would be a shame to miss out again.

  • What do you need powerbank for?

  • "Smart"phone running Racedrone for tracking but doesn't last more than 6hrs really so power boost needed.

  • Ah! Is tracking provided/compulsory?

    I have one from KP, made by Outdoor Tech I think (they sell in shop). 90g with rubberised cover, 67g without, unsure what the power is but good for a couple of iPhone recharges.

  • Anker are good for powerbanks. Something like the PowerCore+ mini I guess. The more weight then the more charge so depends how much you need.

  • Not compulsory but as i'm often solo out that way (more time to be done there) it'll be useful backup so family can be checking. Also finally download some of the kml files it's saved and they're pretty cool, although better with more regular refresh rate (2 mins at most I think). Will check out the KP one more thanks as well as that @aggi mentions below (thanks also) which gets lots of good reviews on amazon at first glance...

  • P.s. EFM will be compulsory tracked via a proper racedrone unit, however phone plus powerbank will be needed for map backup incase things go to sh1t.

    Ugh! 3:00:17 today as 3hr pacer for the Richmond Marathon... was a minute inside 3hr pace till 3 miles to go, by which time what was a fairly healthy sub-3 train of up to 10-12 for most of the first half had whittled down to me, MsPub edging ahead and one guy falling off the back. The next mile for me was comically slow as we intertwined with slower half marathon runners in both directions along narrow tow path, and the wheels started coming off as low mileage for the past three months and twisting my ankle last week conspired to make the going very tough. MsPub forged on and ran 2:57 to win the women's race; I decided my pacing job had been as useful as it would get and just trudged in over the line.

    I've got some miles to put in to be race-ready for VMLM next year but the mojo's there.

  • My longest run to date by far this morning. Set off for a loop out and back along a local footpath. Was expecting to get to 10 miles but secretly hoping for more which in the end I managed.: 13.7 miles in total in 2 hrs 12 mins. Can't quite believe that I did a half marathon! A good way to spend a Monday morning.

    I've spent most of this evening reading about the Gencoe Skyline race, it looks properly crazy. a bit of further research and I think I have two target races for next year: Mourne Skyline and Peaks skyrace.

    Got a pair of Saucony Fastwitch for less than £50 and were delivered within 24hrs with the free delivery.

    Not sure if they're luminous enough though...

  • I went off Fastwitch when they lowered the heel-toe drop from v4 to v5. I PB'd a marathon in v4 but v5 gave me blisters on the arches during a HM. Reading up on these (v7) it seems that they're supposed to be more cushioned and flexible than "previous versions", but still with the same heel-toe drop. I'm tempted to give them another go, perhaps for shorter distance races initially, since they're a fair bit lighter than my Adios Boost. If they're softer, maybe they'll be closer to v4 again, and I can get used to the lower drop?

    Where did you get these from, and have you had any experience of previous versions?

  • Interesting, well I run (road) pretty much exclusively in Kinvara's - These are same heel-toe drop and have more rubber coverage on the outsole* so figured I'd give them a go.

    *The most wear to my Kinvara's outsole is to the outside edges of the forefoot, right where there's no bloody rubber!
