Taxi might be cheaper. It's 20 miles or so. Amazing the think it's pushing £2 min for that journey

Am heading back out that way shortly for a bit more fun in the Peak, cba to bivvy last night even tho conditions were perfect for it. #htfuneeded

I think I'm going to make the transition from trail shoes to spikes for cross country this year, but I've never run in spikes before.
Is there anything I should be aware of, or think about when choosing? Are there any rules of thumb about the number of spikes, the length of spikes etc that I should think about?
EDIT: I should probably add that I currently run cross country in a pair of inov-8 xtalon 190.

You really want to try some on if you can. Sizing can vary a lot and you do want them to be quite a snug fit so they don't get sucked off in mud. Spike length is easy - buy a range (6, 9, 12 & 15mm covers it) and decide on the day according to course and conditions. You might even still decide to use trail/fell shoes, e.g. if the course includes stony trails rather than soft grass.
I'm a big fan of the Brooks Mach series, version 16 currently in use for xc and track. More roomy than some xc spikes, light and comfy. -

Spike length is easy
Agreed - Chuck 12mm in and forget about them for 2 seasons ;)

Top tip: copper grease your spikes before screwing them in, if like me you don't change them often it gives you a better chance of removing them when you eventually do.

Could get a Nao cheapo for £108 as without top headstrap or usb cable at local snow n rock, not sure it'd be £90 better than the above?
Been doing lots of thinking about managing 12hrs from Alpkit Arc (4 battery changes likely) so I went and told S&R I thought 108 was pricey as found for 102 online (in stock, other cheaper but no stock = no bargaining).
After a brief haggle I left 80 notes lighter but bit more assured on long event lighting choice, Nao for main light with Muon (weighs nowt) as backup.

Good shout. Just reminded myself that I still had some 4mm in from track racing, so I've taken them out (with a small struggle in places) and re-greased my orifices.
Southern Counties road relays yesterday at the Bedford Autodrome, a new venue since the traditional course at Aldershot not available. Some nice flat tarmac which was kind to my dodgy ankle (still recovering from a twist a couple of weeks ago) but bloody windy. Glad to say I got round the 6k lap (leg 3 of 4) without incident, took a couple of places, and contributed to our Vet-40 team defending our championship title. Yay!

I went for what i thought was the failsafe vaseline in spikes at the end of last season. It wasn't failsafe. I have binned the spikes. They were rubbish anyway.
Congrats @PhilPub sounds like a good day all round.
My 'getting back into it' continues. had a nice little solo 10k round Richmond Park yesterday after two days of relaxation. I think the cycling to and from work twice a week might be helping get me fit but not impacting the knees and calves to much - any advice on how to make my cycle commute (it's about 8 miles) count / be of use would be welcomed.
Entering the Endurance life half this evening.

Fwiw mine is appx 7 miles e/w (as per run days) and I try to use it for nowt other than making it a gentle spin. Gotta be better for the muscles than being sat on a bus.

I'm exhausted to my very core, cannot wait to begin taper, this can't be life.
-
• #14165
I'll keep it at that then. Cheers.

When does taper start? Rest before then if that tired and it's a few weeks off still.

In a couple of weeks. Funny thing is that I felt lethargic all day but when it came to my workout in the evening I was perfectly fine. Seems my body is tuned to running now but general living itself can get fucked.

Does anyone have a running watch they're thinking of selling? My boyfriend has started running and is using my watch, which is fine, unless I want to use it at the same time.
-
• #14172
I know that feeling. Could sleep right now, varies from day to day though but resting should help as next runs are 2x Fri 1x Sat then more rest until Tues.

International Parkrun day tomorrow, I haven't been in a couple of weeks as I've been in a major funk - back on it tomorrow though! Brockwell is cancelled so probably going to go to Dulwich. Anyone else up for it?
