  • Bluetooth has gone odd for me.
My phone indicates that it is connected to the garmin, but the garmin does not say it is connected to the phone so wont upload any rides. Any advice? Have tried forgetting and re-establishing connection.

Garmin 1000, iPhone 6s. Both with latest OS.

  • Edge 1000 waypoint limitations - does anyone know any clever ways around them?

"The device can only store 200 waypoints"

"Deleting and replacing points is very difficult - manually deleting points one at a time on the device"

  • Open the file in basecamp, view the route properties, delete stuff as required. Resave the file.

  • But 200 is the limit? There's no way to use multiple files?

I can't install basecamp onto this machine, something's wrong with the installer failing to work with remnants of an old install. I'll try at home.

  • Why have you got 200 waypoints? Are you sure regarding the limit of waypoints?. Is this in a single route? The limit for via points and trackpoints is virtually unlimited AFAIK.

It may be possible if you load the waypoints as a custom POI category.

  • It's a map of service points so on an Edge they're treated as a "Location" which translates to a waypoint I believe. It's not a route/track set.

  • Have you loaded them as a POI category?

I have a custom category of 422 bike shops in the uk loaded so It is possible to exceed the 200! limit.

  • Cheers I'll look into that POI thing.

  • Have you tried forgetting both on the iphone and GC and reconnect both again? I had the same issue, but I forgot to wipe the GC off my phone before reconnect them both again and they're fine now.

  • Ah. Didn't know there were settings for that within GC. Just deleted the app and downloaded again. Fine now. Ta!

  • Anyone able to recommend a simple GPS tracking watch? I don't always want to ride with a garmin but do like to record the majority of my mileage. Reasonable looking would be an advantage too.

  • Any of the low end of the Forerunner series would do. Doesn't do cadence obviously, but will do HR if you get one with a strap (or have a compatible HR strap already). Not too big or chunky a watch either.

I used my old Forerunner 110 for tracking my commutes and distance run during 5-a-side football. Can be found for cheap on eBay (I recently sold mine to a friend for £20 - without HR strap).

Here's an example cycling activity from it: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/758335426

  • Forerunner 310xt can be had well-cheap. Great battery life, tracks cycling, running and swimming and you can mount to the bike with the QR kit if you want, looking at metrics on your wrist is a pain when you're cycling.

  • Will look into those. Not after cadence, heart rate or even live data of any kind really. Just a reasonable battery, a slim profile and the ability to upload rides once finished.

  • Avoid the Forerunner 305/405 models (which can be had for cheap on eBay). The touch bezel is the worst UI I've ever had the misfortune to use and will drive you utterly mad (especially if used in the rain).

The older the model you get the chunkier a profile it will have. The various old reviews on DCRainmaker's blog are jam packed with info. Here's the one for the 110:-

  • Agreed, that touch bezel is really bloody annoying.

  • Since the latest update on my 810, it's telling me I use far far more calories than it ever did before. Normally approx 500-600/hr z2 or z3 ride, now it's at least double that
Any ideas? It's buggering up MyFitnessPal allowances

  • Stupid question but have you check the Garmin if they have your correct weight and height?

  • Never buy a Garmin 405 or any model with a touch bezel, I learnt the hard way.

  • So, on an easy run this evening I glanced down at my wrist to see my fenix displaying a heart rate of 232. Naturally I found this a bit unnerving so I paused to take my pulse from the neck the old fashioned way and it felt as-expected, which was circa 150.

Either I'm broken or the HR strap is, and I have noticed this problem several times now but I'm still alive, so let's assume it's the strap.

Is there a known issue? I'm wondering if sweat is getting in as I changed the battery recently and could have messed up tightening the screws.

If anyone has recommendations of an alternative HR measurement thing (wrist strap with optical would be nice as wearing a chest strap is uncomfortable anyway) then I'd be keen to hear.

  • Wrist optical works good for run, not biking.

  • DC Rainmaker has something to say about wrist based HR. Scroll down to the "HR accuracy" section: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/02/garmin-fenix3hr-review.html

My HR strap (HRM-1 connected to an Edge 705 when cycling) used to go >220 some times, and often in exactly the same place (Danebury Avenue, Roehampton near where the buses turn round). I think it's something to do with either buses or the comms they use to speak to TFL's tracking system.

  • I seem to remember high voltage power lines doing that to my readings back home.

  • A valid point. Just checked but alas the number are correct

  • Garmin 920xt

During the drive home from a cycling weekend. I uploaded my rides and realized my FTP was off. So deleted the files from training peaks and Garmin connect. Then re synced the watch with the Garmin connect app. Except the watch doesn't reconise any new activities so syncs for a minute and stops.

What's the easiest way of getting these bloody files off my watch?

    Thankyouplease
