True, seems the cheaper stuff is around the 77p-£1.10 per 100g price point but still I've drunk Modern Standard and thought it was alright. I think it's also still an indy roasters

Rave Italian Job. £12 a kilo delivered. Hipster beans at supermarket prices. Really nice dark traditional roast. Signup to newsletter for lots of sale codes.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I'll pick up some modern standard - someone else suggested that too. Cheap enough for my needs I reckon.

Found a place close to the main square caffe cittadino owner roasts his own beans, house blend is roasted lighter than usual in Italy, so have some beans to bring home..
-
• #12006
If there's no roast date, avoid.

Remember you can freeze the beans to make them last much longer, just make sure to let them come back to room temperature because grinding/brewing them.

That's a good thing - they still have a tendency to over roast in Italy, but to be fair, most of Europe do.

About to become a parent and envision lots of cold coffee. I don't own a microwave. Should I get one with the aim of reheating cups? Will completely fuck the flavour? Or just slightly fuck it. Serious question.

Low heat on a stove top?

I've never reheated coffee in my life.

one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01FHTHRSQ/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_2
or a much cheaper version if you're not too fussed about coffee

About to become a parent and envision lots of cold coffee.
Firstly congrats.
IME 3.5yrs no cold coffee, if you're organised and time your brews right you'll be ok.
Partner has had the odd cold tea, but that happened pre baby too.
P.s. good filter coffee can taste great when cooled down.

Thermal moccamaster (avoid the hot plate one) would be the thing. Always makes awesome coffee without you having to pay any attention to it, you have a litre of it on hand and you can just pour yourself half a cup. It stays hot for hours and tastes good for at least the first of those. You will find during the early part of parenthood that hot, easily available coffee significantly trumps delicate nuances in the flavour.
Dunno what went wrong with my login, I'm @StevePeel

Thanks :)
Yep I kind of enjoy the cool dregs of filter and make quite a lot of cold brew at home but I do like a hot cup.
However despite your thanks your answer will be hidden from my wife when I show her the Technivorm.
Oddly @jv and @StevePeel I saw that and read Moccamaster and thought that looks like a knock off of the Tehnivorm KGBsomething I nearly bought a few years ago.
Anyone else feel free to post links to and praise for it as I build my case...

It's the absense of dicking about when making the coffee in a technivorm which appeals to those who haven't yet lost reasonable perspective regarding process vs result. Just put 60g of coffee in the paper, fill the reservoir and press go. No messing, truly excellent coffee. My wife loves it, she loves good coffee but understandably sees scales and timers as unreasonable so this piece of kit is perfect.
Here's my overly long Bella Barista video of the Technivorm 1 cup vs V60. Not pushing BB, buy it from wherever you like!

don't think it was logged into my google acct.
Logged in to your wife's ;)
Several people have done that. Do Chrome Profiles exist on iPads? They're a godsend on laptops and Android devices.

We have Technivorms in the CloudFlare office. They were recommended by Square Mile Coffee for being the best way to get an above average coffee in volume, in a workplace, with the least hassle or ability for anyone to fuck it up.
We had the budget for whatever we wanted, and ended up with a single 1.2L Moccamaster.
Some people still use a Hario v60 or an Aeropress, but most of the office is happy with the Technivorm.

Thanks Vee! :)
was just thinking of this. Still reasonably pricey (for a supermarket) though.
