  • I shifted 3kg in a weekend with the patented Norovirus™ weight-loss technique!

    Ask me how!

  • Not on doctors recommendation I hope.

  • Till I've lost my belly....yes I'm 6ft, but small framed with skinny arms and legs
Up until I was mid to late 20's I was 10st max, kg's are quite flattering....in real weight, 79.5kg is still 12.5 st. To me that's still rather heavy for someone of my build.
There's no good reason for me to be over 11st.
If I can get to that....that would be a sensible weight I think.

  • Thanks Hingis....how's your own efforts?
Did you get to have that pizza yet?

  • Yeah, Hingis update?

  • I've plateaued at lower 90s for about a month now, having taken a break for summer, just couldn't keep it up, but gladly no gains. Started the campaign again last week so will be reporting back to the thread from Monday.

  • If you're plateauing while on a break thats a brilliant sign.

I was kinda careful on my summer hols and still put on 3kg. Reckon I could shift it pretty fast. But as its been raining sideways for the last 24 hours I'm now utterly unmotivated. Why be light for cycling if cycling sucks.

  • In contrast running in the rain is awesome. Or have you given up on running altogether?

  • If you run in the direction that the rain is going in you won't get wet.

  • I cut Down drastically for bike season. Getting back into it now. But my form and legs arent what they were. My right hip has fuck all flexibility. Which means going long or going hard results in niggles. Which has taken some of the fun out of it.

Totally agree that running in the rain is awesome. did a quick run on sunday in what can only be described as monsoon weather, wearing old School skimpy running shorts. felt amazing. A strong look when Your legs are shaved to just above the knees. Its a Wonder I'm still single.

  • I had that a few years ago--the weight comes back quickly. :)

  • It's been a rubbish year so far, in terms of lack of riding/motivation and constant, gradual weight gain. My overall reaction to the extra weight has been rather apathetic; only really becoming annoyed when my clothes no longer fit. Nearly 118kg now ( 106.8 this time last year ), so gently nudging against the 'moderately obese' level.

The more i weigh, the less inclined I am to want to ride, so yesterday I decided to try and reign in the calories a bit and see if I can get back down to around 100kg again. Hardly svelte racer weight, but hopefully not such a massive struggle to get up the hills.

  • Thats motivation right there though. I was in descent looking shape even when I was 10kg heavier and offically obese. As the kilos came off, I didnt look in better shape. But I started going up hills quicker. A silly little thing really. But its a real effect you can see as opposed to just following numbers.

That said I put on 2kg over the hols, and dont seem to have the motivation left to shift it. I Train shitloads. I just eat shitloads too. My wetsuit is going to be a bitch to use if I cant slim Down a bit again :(

  • I wouldn't focus too much on weight if the goal is to lose your belly.

If you have a belly but no muscle (you say you have skinny arms and legs) sometimes building a bit of muscle is needed to cut the fat again as otherwise there's "nothing left" if that makes sense.

I've about the same belly at 67.5 as at 66 and gained muscle, but if I cut now to 66 I keep the strength and lose some belly.

But sterling work lot of loss :)

  • I found the best way to trim down after 10months driving and eating brownies/sweets was to try to fit in three easy sessions a day and then only start to increase the intensity as I felt better/more in shape....Going for too much soon can be too demotivating

  • I was in decent looking shape even when I was 10kg heavier and officially obese

Well, you're of a certain body type :-)

  • Yeah, I know from experience that attempting calorie reduction and increased exercise simultaneously leaves me in a total mess, so I'm going to give my body a week or two to adjust a bit, before adding any intense ( more than gardening/riding to the shops ) forms of activity.

  • My personal body image, or whatever you Call it. Is of a slim cyclist type. Its only when I see event photos of myself cycling that I realise I'm a bit of a lump.

What motivates me is riding up Mountains. Which I havent done for ages as the weather has been shite. Which has also seen me hanging around the gym more.

Going for a sea swim this evening. I suspect the epic Battle to get my wetsuit on, and the fact that I wont be able to breath in it. Will motivate a bit.

Sprinter's build, I'd say. Certainly not a 'lump'. I spent my late teens-early twenties trying to develop that sort of physique, but unfortunately my body refused to accept muscular status.

  • Having managed to take a month or so off to enjoy my summer and still maintain I'm now back. Here's the story so far.

  • Good show :D

Those BMI charts are pants though, if you are tall and have a stocky build/muscle you easily go into obese.

Not having too much of a belly (or to be precise, fat around organs that's the worst, which usually goes with being overweight but also smoking and a bad diet) is a better indicator. With a 30 kg loss though I guess that's shrank too? :)

  • Yeah, don't really pay that much mind to them as the focus should always to be healthy, but being that far out it was a good marker to aim for.

  • It does save the GP complaining every time you have to weigh in :P

Getting there at a BMI of 24.6...and my fat is about 25% judging by the mirror (female) it's crappy system for the stocky and weight lifting among us.

  • Thanks JW, yes I agree about abdo muscles....I have zero there, undoubtedly things would be better there with some muscle buildup, but I still have the classic "spare tyre" around my belly/sides/back....it's just blubber...several ugly kg of it that still need's to go. I've always known I need to do some additional exercise for my abdo and upper body, I have tried with some dumb bells before but hurt my shoulder a couple of times so I've not continued with that. But I will get back into that in due course, maybe some kettle bell workout instead would be better?
My goal isn't just to lose my belly, as I stated when I joined this "fat club", they were to lose weight, get ftp of 3w/kg and to do 10 & 25 mile times to the VTTA std for my age of 57, they are :- 27:20 & 1:09:34. Currently I'm at 2.55w/kg, 28:58, no time set for 25m...yet.
Which is a significant improvement from when I started. So I'm not just dieting "till there's nothing left", I try to do 3 or 4 short fairly intense turbo/bike rides a week. Which is why it's taken 6 months to lose the same amount as I managed to lose 2 yrs ago in 4 months with no exercise. So this time around I have the added motivation of seeing my bike performance improve.....which as a self admitted strava addict, is a big deal for me.
As is wearing clothes without feeling and looking like just another fat bastard.
So hopefully that's enough to keep me motivated to stay away from all those "comfort" foods I had become hooked on.
