  • So I currently own a Brooklyn V1 pretty much setup as I've always wanted it, I've owned it for a year but am now getting the bug for another project Coz I've not fiddled with anything for ages

  • Whats the frame number?

  • There's a few snaps of the V1, alot of members of the forum have seen it and are familiar with it.

So.... I'm running out of room and desperately want a CX bike but don't want to sell the gangsta. I basically want to keep the Brooklyn but be able to switch between track and cx mode Like the mash works frame so I was thinking of taking on the project and working with a frame builder I know to weld on removable cantilever bosses and studs so i can run a cx setup with a freewheel during winter then remove the cantilevers and studs leaving just the welded bosses on the frame and continue to use the gangsta as a track bike throughout the summer without compromising the look too much

  • The inspiration has come from the launchpad model above and I'm not sure I'll even pursue it, people may think I'm made messing with a V1 but I think It could really work and would be a rad cx bike I just need to hunt down the parts and doing the research.

Hunted down the bosses that are used on the mash works frame just waiting to hear back from suppliers and the frame builder for quotes

  • @Thrasher frame number is 351

  • Fun project.

I think it would look alright. There are plenty of V1 with cant studs on the front fork, bound to be some out there with studs on the rear too.

  • would you consider disc brakes? then having the rear caliper inbetween the seat and chain stays? I think that would look sick. although when you lose the brakes for the track set up, the brackets will always stand out quite alot.

  • I like the idea of that but I'd need to fund a whole new wheel build to accommodate the disc setup. I'm struggling to find 120mm rear spaced disc hubs do they exist?

  • do they exist?

    no

although you could get some macks made.

  • its a possibility, but with my archetypes - phil wood wheels already built it seems silly spending money on more wheels.

    pretty sure I've decided on

    . TRP CX 8.4 Mini V's
    . Sram Single Speed levers

  • I've also hunted down the removable bosses/studs with correct offset and internal thread for the TRP system and got them on order. now just researching into whether ill need a rear bridge for strength and also whether i can find a small seal to help run the cables internally once i drill the top tube

  • Thanks to @swedeee for the handy fork measurements for the brake mount

  • Think I'll keep the omniums and Aarn setup 49:18 for now with 33c CX tyres for daily commute and I've borrowed a 42 tooth chainring to see how the 49:18 and 42:18 setups work in the dropouts with the cross tyres as I'll most likely run sram rival cross cranks in the winter when some more money comes in and that will be 42 tooth. The two options will help rob quirk locate the best position for the mounts when welding the rear.

I've also been In Contact with Austin horse who's gonna do some measuring up of the rear of his work bike to help out and I'm hoping Brooklyn machine works reply to my email and send over some guidelines.

  • Just decided to get bottle bosses on the downtube aswell for convenience and fingers crossed I can drill the top tube for internal cable routing

  • Subbed - quite intrigued by the forthcoming surgical procedure.

  • Let's be honest if it goes horribly wrong I'll probably dissapear of the face of the earth

  • Sounds like a good project.

  • Should have shifted the MTX33 wheelset today so will have a bit of ££ to play with and start ordering parts. Considering the tektro mini v brakes now over the TRP system as they're £20 for the pair on Planet X and apparently do the same job and possibly have more play in the pads. Might be worth getting the cheaper brakes for now to see that the whole project works before diving in the deep end and failing

  • Mtx33's sold to John mack, drop bars collecting from @beach on Wednesday can start ordering rest of components this afternoon.

  • Baffled my self today with brake research and pull ratios for different levers. Unsure what brakes to now run, SRAM single speed 500 levers seem the best option with the TRP cx 8.4 mini v's as the lever compatability seems best but still unsure how pad clearance is gonna work compared to that of a cantilever brake.

    Torn between
. Avid shorty ultimate canti system
    . TRP cx 8.4 mini

Heard great things about both systems

  • Anyone know anything about using travel agents with the TRP mini v's?

  • gon be rad as.

  • Picked up some 32c conti mountain kings yesterday and some deda compacts also got the rest of the components on order so should have it under way and in the workshop welding in the coming weeks. Saw alot of forumers at red hook Crit yesterday and the gangsta cross was mentioned it seems to have gone down really well so I'm excited to get it under way now

  • Also found this on pedal room, think this dudes on here somewhere, this things rad http://www.pedalroom.com/bike/brooklyn-machine-works-gangsta-21622

  • will this be used for actual cyclocross racing? i found the toe overlap (on a v2 short at least) to make it pretty bad for that. maybe just change fork for cx duties?
