I wouldn't bother with clear coat on raw steel, just wipe the whole frame down with an oily/greasy rag every few months or so, then just re-wipe it after with some tissue so your frame isn't covered in oil obviously

Toying with the idea of turning an old 2007-08 Specialized Langster into a light tourer.
Are there any off the peg solutions turning a horizontal dropout to one with a derailleur hangar that isn't wafer thin.
And is it possible to fit a Surly Front rack on a bike with a thicker carbon fork that also has a caliper brake?

If you search for "track end derailleur hanger" (rather than horizontal dropout) you'll find plenty more, this is just one example.

Even if there were, you'd still have the problem of trying to find a decent 120mm hub to take a multiple freewheel, and a decent multiple freewheel to screw onto it. It would be much easier to sell the Langster and buy a road bike.

@Thrust
Couldn't one of these work? Then no derailleur hanger needed. Sturmey Archer X-RF8 8 Speed Hub Standard Axle

Had to tweak my daily ride as it was a bit small for me. Ended up swapping out frame, seatpost, stem, bars, wheels, tyres and bar tape. Just finished and it fits like a glove now.

The saddle angle suggest that it might fit more like an oversized lobster mitten. Try it level and an inch lower, you'll thank me.

So you changed the whole bike then?

Cheers, I'll give that a go today. Still need to go for a proper ride with a multitool.
And yes, I changed the whole bike and attempted a joke :-)

The "Condor x Richard James" is nearly there.
New Pasela 700x25mm (28mm would probably just fit.
New 19t Condor rear sprocket (running 51x19).
New Fizik Volta saddle.Rides nicely although the saddle is still about 2cm too low and I can't raise it due to the ISP :-(
Went to Condor and they said the long ISP clamp was never produced by Deda... So I am a bit at a loose end. -

Thank you?
Those carbon clinchers are only 23mm wide so if I was to get 25mm wide ones, I could fit 28mm Paselas.
For info, those 25mm Pasela are 25.5mm wide on my 23mm rims.

Hi guys,
I would like some help. I like to go touring in New Zealand at the beginning of next year and I don't want to ride on this crappy frame anymore: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/267453/?offset=25#comment12614351 .
At first I was thinking about buying a nice 29'' touring bike like a Velo Orange Piolet because I want to be able to have fat tyres but I don't like to spend so much money.
Now I'm thinking about buying a second hand Koga Randonneur frame, this one:
Will it be a stupid idea to put 650b wheels in it so it will be more suitable for unpaved roads? And what kind of brakes and rims can I use for this? Any info is much appreciated!

Can't say about the route 69 but I highly recommend colossi frames on the work they do.

Changing cantilever brake to be able to use 650b tyres would be very difficult. Very few choice but I think there are some mini v with longer than usual adjustment for the brake pad.

win 2cm on the saddle bro ; )

Colossi make frames for a large number of brands, although their qc isn't exactly phenomenal, it'll be good value at that price.

I have a Koga Randonneur - look a few posts up.
With 700CC mine easily clears 32s + big mudguards, you could probably run 40s without mudguards. As such I've never needed a 650b.
Only problem is they're quite rare.

Not decided on how I'd like to build it up yet, probably going to use what I have knocking about and see how it feels :)
