  • Appropriate tires are available in all adult sizes, don't think that 584mm is the only size that'll work well for gravel/dirt!

  • yeah I've heard a lot of stuff about rubbish paint jobs, but I'm not really bothered about that. It just seems like a good alternative to a caad/bowman/kinesis.

  • They made all the Tokyo fixed frames, both cheap and pricey. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they make stuff like the Brother framesets, track frames from small companies etc. I would say anything they describe as 'handmade' or otherwise premium will be totally fine, I'd be slightly more wary of their factor floor stuff but it wouldn't dissuade me from buying...

  • i've ordered three frames from them, the standard models not the custom made one:
    rambler cx, mondial road, delight
the paint work is good but yes it is a bit easy to chip on the cx
the mondial is for a friend, but when i get it, the paint seems better.
can't comment for the delight, still waiting for it to clear custom.

    cheers.

  • Thanks for your reply and nice bike!
Yeah I was thinking about just running 700C with some 40s, should be more than enough for gravelroads and such. But it would be cool if I would be able to ride some mtb trails as well and than I prefer wider tyres.

  • Yeah but with 700C wheels it can't take tyres wider than 40C... With 27.5 it should be possible to fit wider ones.

  • Don't do it.
Buy one of those adventure bike things. Surly or whatever.
It will be nicer, better and more useful for several kinds of riding. And more fun too!

  • It's not really made for more than gravelroads, would feel a bit like a boat on a MTB trail, though nice if it's really smooth

  • Main difference is price: my koga was £100 complete

  • Just finished my Super Acciaio... <3 click for build thread and a couple of detail pics

  • Ah didn't know the TF stuff was their doing. They post loads of pics of frames they do for people who buy direct and they all look pretty well finished. I'm really just not sure if I can wait for a decent second hand frame to come up on here tbh...

  • That's reassuring. Would def be interested to hear how the delight is when you get it - Looks great on their site. Track or road?

  • It's the road. Just waiting for the taxes and should be within next week.

  • Jokes build on my rych. Coaster and front brake is suprisingly fun

  • Yeah I quess you are right! Time to spend some money.
    Thanks for the advises.

  • soooo good!

  • Canti's are shit compared to V-brakes, but I'm now more cross read. Might get some travel adapters so I can get V's back.

  • Cx9s have done me great

  • I tried some tektro rx5, the mud clearance was poor with 40c tyres. There would ha been barely 5mm between tyre and the cable.

    Are cx9's taller?

    Edit: apparently so

  • @spotter I've got some TRP mini V's on my brother - incredible.

  • CX8.4 is what you need spotter.

Which are 85mm same as tektro RX5. The more arm length you get i.e. CX9 or proper V the less mechanical advantage you get (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cantilever-geometry.html#mechanical). You need to chose between the three, big tyres and canti, smaller tyres and mini V (smallest arm length you can get for the right brake 'feel') or full sized V with travel agent where you get both.

CX8.4 is a winner because you get decent leverage and feel (still no DA9000) and it takes road pads so you can put swisstop evo pads that are made for wide rims.

On my macho man I've 'narrow' (kinlin XR200 I think) rims with 35mm kojaks and SKS guards and the noodle rubs against the guards. Doesn't interfere with braking that much though. I had XC279 rims before and they were pain to set up given the leverage and the pad to rim distance and how little you get to play with.

In an ideal world I want this: http://store.oceanaircycles.com/products/rambler

38 with guards under a powerful brake that is not disc (or ugly or heavy or that expensive etc)

  • Top info, thanks will look into them.

    Also you're becoming scoble.
