How do you convince someone to wear a helmet?
What made you decide to wear one?
Not sure if correct thread but I would love to encourage people to wear helmets that are new to cycling. The roads are crazy..

I crashed at approx 27mph yesterday, hit a pot have me and went flying, I landed on my left shoulder and head, I'm very glad you was wearing a decent well fitting helmet as its what they're designed to protect from (I.e. Impact generated from cycling) I've woken up with a sore shoulder and a bit of a headache, I'm pretty sure if I had 't been wearing it I'd be waking up in hospital or worse....
Just one story, but it's enough for me to never go out again not wearing one.

got a protone, but it's 260g.
My aeon is only 200g, so that's 30% more. A lot really. What other light helmets are there?
-
• #967
200g is basically the bottom end weight wise.
Poc raceday is 190g
Limar lightweight is 175gFor aero helmets the kask vertigo and poc octal aero are amongst the lightest. My octal aero weighs 240g (actual weight).

Struggling to find a good arrangement for my follicularly challenged, pale white head.
Currently I'm wearing a cycling cap + helmet. Cap is there to stop odd sun marks on my head. The problem is that it marks my forehead real bad, because it's somewhat stiffer on the peak (flap?) sewing. It's really not a great look, I look like an idiot on arrival.
Possible solutions:
- very soft cap
- softshell with no peak/flap, but not for winter use
- helmet with no ventilation (no sun marks), but not for winter use
Does any of these exist?
- very soft cap

my old man wears castelli skullcaps which are soft and have no peak, so his noggin doesn't get sunburnt.
there are lots of helments with no vents these days as well.

Castelli a good shout too, thanks

Plenty of softer caps. More cotton, or a silk one.
I think skullcaps look stupid. -
• #974
OK so nothing better than aeon.
I think for 30% reduction in weight is a lot and it's really worth it. -

They are really thin.
If you twist the tube in the centre, and pull one end over the over you get a double layer skull cap. Or just pull over Your head, and sweep the excess back under the helmet.
Does UK have mandatory helmet laws?
I live in Washington State and we don't have state laws but most of the major counties do. I'm in Seattle and it's almost a $100 fine if you're caught without one...and they actually do issue them out.
Most of my "too cool for helmet" friends all have at least one or two tickets....the bike cops are usually the ones that nail them.
Just picked up a Giro Foray to replace me 15 year old Specialized Banshee.
Between the sale price and a coupon code, I only paid $30 and got the color I wanted (solid white).
I'm impressed with what you get for such little money...no mushroom effect/actually low profile on me, Roc Loc 5 tightening system, good airflow, not the lightest (275g-ish) but decent, etc..
Definitely a good bargain/value in the helmet world.
