Dude, you're just looking for a problem that doesn't exist.
Running too wide tyres is a problem. A little bit of mud or other gunk can create problems without even frame flex.. And yes flex is real.. Never had to open your rear calipers on hard climbs?

Only if you like having your pads that close to the rims.

That's all I have right now. I have worn 23mm Gatorskin on the front and the (almost new) 27mm in the rear.
Just paid a massive vet bill for a pet emergency so I'm super tight on cash.
This isn't by choice, it's just a temporary fix until I buy a new set of 25mm or 23mm.

Leave your ancient conventional wisdom out of the door.
Wide tyres are just so fresh and new...
and leaving "ancient and conventional widsom" at the door...

Does anywhere in London still have the old gumwall Open Corsas in stock? I realise the G+ has replaced them but I don't find them as good

Does anywhere in London still have the old gumwall Open Corsas in stock?>
They have have been on sale as discontinued all over the place for so long that the stocks are now pretty thin. If you want the CX in black/white and 23mm, Bike-Palast in Germany still seems to list them at ~28 EURO each.

fwiw Corsa G+ 25c on 19mm internal rim gives 28mm width.

Didn't realise they were discontinued a while ago, only phased out kind of recently in Australia.
In that case, where can I buy fast gumwalls in London before Sunday? E.g Corsa G+, Veloflex..

What tyres do people recommend for grip in wet weather? Always used Gatorskins but after two crashes due to my wheels slipping on things like wet manhole covers it might be time for change.

New Corsa G+ are incredible in the wet. Never had more grip than on those! Spendy though...
-
• #3364
Open pave, gravel kings are the two most recent I've used in wet weather, both offer good grip.
-
• #3365
Duranos are good
-
• #3366
Does anything cling to a wet manhole cover though?
-
• #3367
Yes, he's not available in 28c though..
-
• #3368
Second this. But you'll want to roll on something else in the dry.

• #3369
Haha, excellent

Heads up, Schwalbe Marathon Supreme (700 x 32c only, I think) going cheap in the Planet X flash sale later today, 6.00-7.00pm. Shame I'm after another 28c. :(

gravelking 26c - took them on 130km including some seriously challenging gravel/rock/path/grass conditions and no punctures or grip issues. Right good tyres.
-
• #3372
Schwalbe One. Good in both wet and dry, and cheap too.
-
• #3373
Do they even make them in 28c any more? Their website doesn't show them...

Thought I'd report back after a couple of weeks of commuting on Kojak 700x35c. I really like these tyres. I've settled on 55/65 psi f/r which for me is the right balance between comfort and not squirrelly. I find them really comfortable to ride and plenty of grip. Fine in the wet as well.
The only downside is now when I get on my road bike, with 23c conti gp4k, it feels like riding on nails. I think I will need to get some 25c tyres back on. Only went down to 23c in the hope of managing to fit mudguards and gave up on that in any case.

Stop riding on wet manhole covers, much cheaper.
