Which Tyres?

  • Haven't ridden any other tyres since touring and commuting on my 54mm Rat Trap Pass. Bit worried about getting back on the 22mm tubulars on my road bike...

  • How do those new Vittoria Corsa G+ tyres size up in 25 vs a Pave?

Also - are they really worth it over an SC or SR? Pricey tyres are pricey.

  • I have 25c pave tubs on stingers and 25c G+ on a wide-ish rim .. can measure.

G+ are nice BUT with latex inners I cant feel much of a difference between them and Michelin Pro4 or Schwalbe one both of which are at bargain prices atm. Not gumwall obviously.

Compass are a better shout at G+ price IMO.

  • Get Turbo Cottons. Worth the extra IMO -they're faster than SCs.

  • Training tubs on race wheels >>>

  • I dont 'train'

  • or 'race'

  • Grip in the wet makes G+ a worthwhile upgrade IMO

  • This is for nice wheels on the nice bike, they don't necessarily have to be the fastest. I've been using 24c SR's for the last year and love them but would like gum walls for vanity reasons.

I had a pair of SC's last year on the other bike, they were superb for about 5-600 miles.. then they punctured every damn ride until I binned them.

  • Never had a good experience with Challenge tyres

  • If you want gum, have you had a look at the bont r4 320? mine running perfect...puncture free, but then cambridge is far from the conditions of london's famous london.

  • Sizes up very well, 28mm is 28mm (on 17mm internal).

BTW it look more like a pale gumwall that been left out in the sun compare to the old Corsa.

  • Neither did I, with the exception of the Strade Biancha which is very un-Challenge like.

  • My Challenge Grifos were great

  • any good sub-23c clincher tyre that are also kind of suitable for road use? (22c and smaller)

  • Corsa CX comes in 20c which comes up more like 21c, can often be found cheap too. I spent a few months last summer riding with one on the front and didn't die.

  • Any experience of Panaracer Gravelkings clinchers? Quite like the look of these in 32mm for my Croix de Fer when it's in its "go fast(ish)" dress-up rather than commuting/touring kit (when it will likely have Pasela TGs).

  • Had the 28s on my Defy. Good tyres, grip well wet or dry, not too heavy, and no punctures whilst I used em.
Think @TM uses the 32s on his Cdf, maybe give him a shout.

  • This shop has a huge selection of track specific tubs and clinchers. Lots of choices smaller than 23mm

Also a great reference when searching for gumwalls. Veloflex offers a lot of varieties and I know the owner recommends these tires...durable but have a real comfortable ride.

One of the best sites for referencing tires choices since all of the info (size/color/use) is all in one place.

  • Thanks for the suggestions :)

these are cheap.. has anyone had experience with them being particularly crap?

  • Vittoria Corsa G+ tyres

    25c size up 26.5mm on 19mm internal

  • I have 20mm Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX (all black) and Veloflex Record (gumwall).

Not sure that I used the VF and the Vitt. has had just enough use to take the shine off.

Yours for half of whatever the cheapest price you can find is.

  • Thanks, great offer. Those Records get rave reviews. I'm worried they'll be too nice for what I'll be using them for though... will drop you a pm

  • I have the 24 turbo cottons on my reynolds they're great so far
