• Does anyone have any experience with the Rotor BB30 (to Road 68mm) converter?

  • Thanks Scilly, I'm not sure it was the same version though...
I'm looking at this one (https://www.mantel.com/uk/rotor-bb30-converter&utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping?gclid=CN3una76rMsCFUORGwodHMkABg), as an alternative to a Praxis BB30 to Shimano adapter.

  • What lockring do people use for Phil hubs + EAI/Surly /other beefy cogs?

  • Most hubs are threaded 1.29" x 24TPI, but Phil Wood and Campagnolo are 1.32" x 24TPI.

So if it's a Phil hub, you can use either a Phil or Campag lockring.

Miche probably make a compatible lockring, but Miche >>>>>

  • SOLVED. Replaced the bb on my carbon synapse at the weekend. Used the proper park tools for removal and installation. New BB went in smoothly and easily. Noticed the wavy washer wasn't really compressed so used 2 of the 0.5mm shims that came with the sram bb. Torqued it all back up to 40nm and looked good. Feels stiff when spinning the cranks in the stand. They go maybe 90 degrees before stopping when you spin them.

Reckon that'll loosen up with a ride? have the shims caused it? or have I fucked up the bearing installation?

It was the shims wot dun it

  • I'm sure this has been covered somewhere before but I'm having problems fitting a Quarq crank on a 24mm threaded Chris King BB.

The crank seems to be either too tight and binds or too loose and come off.

I believe the issue is the spacer selection if someone can clarify.

The bike is a Cervelo R3.

    Thanks

  • Want to fit fsa power pro cranks to a road frame. I'll use one ring in the outer position. What length bb can I get away with?

  • I'm struggling to find info on this issue but please point me in the right direction if it exists.

I've just tried upgrading my fixed Gitane (so French thread sugino BB) from cheap and cheerful stronglight cranks to some shiny Campy Triomphs. All fine with the drive side - chainline pretty much exactly as sketchy as before. But when I put the left crank on, it goes right up against the BB cup. Enough to create resistance. What's the issue here?

  • Ok, I solved that one pretty quickly. It was a ISO/jis taper incompatibility based issue. Just luck that the drive side produced the same chainline.

EDIT - actually, if the spindle is JIS and the crank is ISO, shouldn't it be sitting even further out instead of further in? I'm confused. Again.

  • NINJA EDIT: sigh should have refreshed before posting...

    nothing to see here

  • Asking for a friend here, who has an early 1980s Gazelle that is currently suffering a broken BB axle. The frame apparently takes a 37.6mm push fit BB. From what I understand, he's tried fitting a 38mm BB without success. The next size down is 35mm - which is too small.

I've had a quick look online, and can't see anything about a BB of that size. Does anyone know where to find a 37.6mm BB, or is he just working the 38mm incorrectly?

Note I haven't seen the actual bike or BB!

Thanks very much for any help you might be able to offer.

  • I'm building a 1x10 setup on a 68mm shell with 135 spacing at the rear. I'm not sure what bb spindle length to go for. Can anyone point me towards a guide/info on how to choose? Had a google but struggling to find trustworthy info. Ta

  • Campagnolo Record Pista + Campagnolo Veloce 111 nonsymetrical + Dura Ace 7710 = ElroyJetson

  • Anybody have/know of a brand of extremely thin (2mm max guage)bottom bracket spanner/wrench to remove an old style drive side bottom bracket cup-the type with 2 spanner flats? I can't remove the drive side crank as someone has stripped the threads before I got the frame, so wanted to try take the cup of and remove the whole thing as a unit, but there is naff all space between the crank and the bb cup/frame.

  • I'm sure i'm being a dimwit here, but i'm now trying to find out what ISO bb spindle length i need to get to recreate the same chainline on a Campag triomphe chainset currently mounted on a JIS spindle. I know chainline is 44mm, currently. Other than trying any old ISO spindle in the crankset and working it out from there. i should just do that, shouldn't i?

  • ISO vs JIS

You should be able to work it out from there.

PS @mdcc_tester is a fan of old Camp.

  • Amazing. Many thanks to you and @mdcc_tester.

Is old camp the same as high camp?

  • Need some SRAM omnim knowledge.
Would a nondrive side SRAM apex cranks be compatible with a SRAM Omnium driveside crank?

  • I appreciate this has undoubtedly been asked multiple times, and I have searched but found nothing so bear with me.

Got hold of an FXE frame. I'm going to be running my On-One track hub at the back fixed/free. What is the deal with cranks? I was contemplating robbing the Tiagra (double) off my road bike and using that as an excuse for a new crank on the road bike, is this likely to work chainline wise or is it something I just need to try, OR is it just not going to work for a reason I haven't considered?

    Thanks and apologies in advance.

  • Track hubs (generally) have a 42mm chainline.

Road double chainsets (generally) have a chainline of 43.5mm (measured between the rings). So the inner ring will be at 41mm and the outer 46mm.

If you're ok with fugly, then the inner position and 1mm are unlikely to give you any problems.

If you want to use the outer position you'll need to re-space the hub, replace the axle (because the bearing stops prevent it being moved sideways) and re-dish the rim.

I use a 46mm chainline on both bikes, as I have Ultra Torque on one and 7400 with a short BB on the other.

  • Hmm ok thanks, useful to know.

I'm sure I could cope with running the chainring inside and deal with 1mm. I'll have to work out whether it's better value to just get a track crank.

    Ta for the info.

  • I'm sure I could cope with running the chainring inside and deal with 1mm.

A bushless chain will make it all run smoother: I'm not sure how easy it is to find bushless 1/8" chains (I run 3/32", both bushed and bushless).

  • Looking around, people seem to suggest Alfine cranks are 41.8mm chainline so that could be a go-er. Plus they look better.
