For what purpose?
For use in your TT wheels, yes. For use on your commuter, probably not.

^ This.
The only advantage butyl has over latex, is that it is less gas permeable: you won't need to pump up your tyres so often.

Yes.

Anyone seen this shit with latex tubes before? Looks to me like that section is 'thin' or something.
-
• #7
Yep - it's fine when installed though.
-
• #8
Yep happens when you have to check for slow punctures with the bowl of water

Ok, thanks chaps. They're Bontrager tubes and I don't recall my Michelin doing that but maybe I just gave these more air. Panic over.
Bloody valve extenders I got don't close off the valves though so I still can't use them.
-
• #10
You are meant to join the extender on and leave it in place.
-
• #12
Have you considered cycle training?
-
• #13
Dude, you don't know what type of extender I'm using. I know how they work because I have two others currently working luverly and have been for the last four years. They don't work with the new tubes I have just bought.
-

Google Topeak valve extenders
-
• #15
Ah yes I have one of them, it's a bit shit and rattles loads but should work
-
• #16
I tape the plunger down so it doesn't rattle. I know it should work but the new ones don't grip the valve on the Bontrager tubes for some reason. I'm sticking with my current setup.
-
• #17
Aren't the Topeak ones meant to be removed each time?
-
• #18
They can be but it's not a good idea.
-
• #19
Topeak and Zipp extenders can >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
-
• #20
Ha, I have both of those on my TT bike.
-
• #21
Yeah, I much prefer conti replaceable core extenders.
-
• #22
Troll level high.
-
• #23
Do they explode before or after the tyres let go?
-
• #24
Hah, I don't use conti tubs (well not anymore) but I do use their valve extenders. So long as you use a bit of Teflon tape to install them they have been fine.

Challenge latex tubes - huge fans of the road ones which I've used on my road bike for the past two years without issue.
Had the CX ones on my Pompino since April and whilst they feel incredible, both have failed within a week of each other.
They've not punctured, but there's several patches on the tube where air seems to be leaking through. Texture of the tube feels rough, like it's been sanded.
Any ideas?
Latex inner's for clincher rims -
Are they worth the extra money?
