I'd get 2016 Supersix Hi-Mod with mahosive tyre clearance. Mechanical DA9000. Zipp 404 NSW. Do a proper mid-life crisis.

Ha, so I /think/ that one of my requirements is Di2/etap... Never even ridden a bike with it, but feels like I should

YES TO ETAP ⚡️
-
• #7105
I don't think there's any production bikes with etap yet.

Boardman Air 9.9 I think

Boardman Air 9.9
Just had a look, impressive spec for the price!

looks nice doesn't it? I think that it is marginally beyond where I can quite wangle spending authority... Cycle Republic have them apparently, British cycling have 10% off at Halfords, I wonder if that works at CR...
Downside is the BB placed rear brake.

I've had bike with brake at BB shell, its not an issue but it will limit your usage to spring/summer .. thats why aero bikes are not recommended for us mortals with no sponsored mechanics etc.

So I reckon that I could discipline myself to keep riding the Lynskey in the winter. I loves it anyway.

I love those Sumo. Too much.

I have a in line cable adjuster at the BB area too. Keeps the cockpit (giggle) tidy.
If I was going to ride this boke loads in shit weather, I'd move it to around the stem. The road salt seizes it. Other than that I cant see the issue.

Proper midlife is custom titanium, why faff around cheap factory built when you can have bespoke bling?
(photo is not binding but just per example) -
• #7119
Or get an old frame, removed all the braze-on except for the gear hanger, then fit eTap.
-
• #7120
I agree, but I have a (factory) ti bike. Nobody really needs two titanium bikes.

@dancing james may disagree with you...

So I love the R5, I think it is a beautiful looking bike. The Supersix likewise...
My day-to-day bike is a disc-braked Lynskey, a lovely comfortable ride which I love. A bit of a lump maybe when covered in its "stay comfortable in all weathers mode" so I want something different.
My requirements are very wooly, which is not helping me in any way.
I've just got my midlife crisis bike, a R2 which will eventually end up with Campag Chorus or Record and Chinese Tub Crabons on it. Was also looking at Supersixes, and I don't think you can go wrong with either.
Different geo between them though - R2/3/5 more relaxed compared to Supersix. Stems can sort you out either way though, running a 130mm -6deg stem on the R2 initially to give me a bit more reach. -

I sometimes go to Houston and ride. It is absolutely super flat there, fast rolling roads and great fun to be out riding in a group that you don't know. If I am completely honest those few rides/year are flavouring what sort of bike I fancy WAY too much
