I'm not generally in the states, I'm in Barnet, I just go over a few times a year. Also instant gratification.

Exactly

But he should get an R5ca instead, normal R5's are so plain.
And fit it with eTap.
Definitely. -

I do love the R5, but really I think an S is what I fancy. Just popped into lbs, hadn't actually appreciated the enormous differences between the S3 and S5 til I saw them in the flesh.
@LeMesjeu I would love eTap, and its competitively priced as a groupset, but that would mean not buying off the peg...

S5 is ugly, imo.
-
• #7138
S3 still has the relaxed stack/reach of the R series, which seems a bit silly for an aero bike. S5 definately more aggressive

Are the Trek bikes that trek-segafredo ride custom geometries? Particularly the Domanes look like they have a much 'racier' front end than any of the pictures of the stock domanes
-

yes H1 vs H2 fit. All their models come in H1 and H2. Except for Domane (not sure what they are doing with SLR). Domane had a Koppenberg edition that was H1 and was only 56cm and above.
No mortal can have H1 slammed with a respectable stem. Mad long and low.
-
• #7141
Makes sense, so they only really do H2 'type' fit domanes in production.
I quite fancy it but so much compact puts the bike snob in me off

The standard Domane is a bit weird, they call it 'endurance' geo which basically means MAMIL. You could have a massive -17 slammed stem on it for tumblr points?
^ example of a MAMIL bike tumblr-fied.
Worth noting that very few manufacturers actually sell their pro-endurance frames. You cant buy the synapse sagan rode or the roubaix that terpstra rode.
-
• #7143
doesn't sagan have custom geo frames anyway?
-
• #7144
They used to have a H1 fit of the Domane, look like there isn't an option for the 2016 model.
Nor the alu and budget carbon version according to their website.

Worth noting that very few manufacturers actually sell their pro-endurance frames.
The 2015 Domane Classic Edition, despite being a great bike, didn't sell much, which explain why they don't do it for 2016;

I note most of my local shops mostly stock 'comfort' geo bikes over traditional geo bikes. Shops not having the demand for traditional geo bikes, or customers not being given the option to choose ?

Originally there was one type of road bike, with the quill stem being able to provide a comfortable fit.
If they wanted more tyres clearance, they'd go for a cyclocross bike, or a touring bike.
Nowadays, with ahead, there's no way to extend the stem height other than getting a steerer extenders.

Hey all,
My girlfriend is interested in doing the Dunwich Dynamo this year after my tales of all it's varied joys... She's after a bike that fits as she's previously only ridden my bikes (56 cm frames with a 110mm stem) which are too long in the reach for her. She's about 5.10, so quite tall.
She likes steel bikes, but budget isn't huge (still TBC but likely absolute max of about £700) so it largely puts OTP steel out of reach. Having spoken to a couple of people it seems that women's bikes might be a better shout than a second hand men's or "unisex" frame- something about longer seat tube but a shorter reach. Is this true?
I don't really want to use a really short stem on a man's bike as I want her to be confident and the bike can't be twitchy (first road bike).
I was kind of thinking of looking for a used steel frame and putting new tiagra on it or something. I have some wheels that she can use (racing 7 LG).
Any thoughts on sizing for women's frames generally? Will do that competitive cyclist online fitting thing at some point too.
Cheers

Surprisingly, in stock!
I love the blue in women's edition.

great spec, although the lack of cycle to work scheme at it being right at the top of the budget will make it very difficult to sell in!
Shush.
