The disc? Going to have to decide what to do about the cog situation, no lockring thread..
Fit a brake?

• #253
That would be the sensible thing to do

Neil Orrell has been spruced up. I'm booked onto a stage 1 induction at LVV, Wednesday at 5pm if anyone wants to join me :-) Hopefully there isn't anything that will stop me from riding it! I think it needs a black chainring

Completed my stage 1 induction today at LVV on the Neil. I was lucky in the fact that there were only 6 of us booked compared to the 16 in a full session. The bike rode lovely, I had not problems staying in the drops for a reasonable amount of time. I may consider swapping the nitto jag for a pearl to make thinks a bit more comfortable though.
I might have to explore other ways of getting there as this time I changed my wheels when I got there but lugging the wheels on my back for 7 miles wasn't that fun, especially on the way back.

I have black tyres on my other wheelset, looks good but I kind of like the splash of colour?

Well done on stage one!
7 miles> isnt even that much tbh and im not even a 'mess life' guy. I recommend filling a rucksack with bubble wrap/clothes, then find a way to attach them securely so they that they dont swing and the padding should stop the axle from the wheel digging into your back.In terms of stem you could just go one cm shorter and or lift the stem up a few cm. Slammed track stems looks a bit anti imo, aesthetically I think they need a least 1/2cm for it to be pleasing to the eye. Just my 2p!

how strict are LVV with tyre condition? Couldn't you just ride in and carry a spare folding corsa or summin for the back?
-
• #259
Cheers! Have you done anymore stages yet?
Yeah... I probably just need to man up haha The real annoyance for me is that with the wheels on my back I'm quite a bit wider so filtering through traffic isn't really very fun. A lot of the gaps are too small for me to fit down without taking out some wing mirrors.
Yeah I had it raised a fair bit compared to the pics above. I'll probably keep it as is for my next session and then decide if I want to change it then. I didn't feel too stretched out or anything so it might be good as is

Actually the bike check was fairly laid back. He pretty much just gave the bike a look over, asked what the bb height was and that was it.
Changing the tyre would be an option but I hate changing tyres at the best of times

Can you not use a pair of these to carry your wheels?

I second ElGato - you definitely need a pair of those

I just did a search and read an article on them. It said that toe overlap was severe with the wheels on and that it is almost impossible to turn right. The wheels hit the downtube

Could you just take a rag and vinegar with you, I did this for my stage 2 and just cleaned the tyres when I got there
-
• #266
I can strap them to my bag no problem so that isn't an issue
-
• #267
I'm riding brakeless though so skids would ruin the tyre. Could do that with the front though, would mean I only need to have the one wheel on my back which is more manageable

So am I, I just have one wheel set for riding on the track, and I don't skid it, I guess I live about 20min from LVV though so I can slowly pace it there no need to skid.

I'll probably just change the rear when I go next

Put some nice wheels on the OSCA and took it for some laps at Regents Park in the sun.

Still on stage 2 as the last time I was on a hire bike and their shitty clips and straps. Gonna aim for stage 2 next week at some point.
The osca is looking rowdy!

I don't think your Neil looks right with the Jag. They look great on NJS but they are typically taller squarer frames. Definitely looks like an uncomfortably big drop for the length.

Its because the handlebars would normally hit the wheel. somehow haveo avoids that, so its just the fact that it is uncommon to see me thinks.
Essentially i think the neil looks boss. The stem might be a tad long aesthetically if anything.

The Jag looks much better when it's raised a bit.
I'm looking for a pearl 11 in 26.0 clamp to fit to a pair of Deda peiga compacts which I got. That'll be a lot more comfortable

I've come to the conclusion that the reason I never ride the road Neil is because it doesn't run well. The gear changes are temperamental and the wheels aren't true, I just don't have the motivation to ride it.
So I'm planning to sink some money in it and build something for training. I'm currently looking at a 5800 group set. With the majority of my budget going into the group, The wheels are going to be cheap. I'm thinking a set of aksiums as I've had a set before and they were reliable. I do have a front silver Ksyrium which I could make black with a paint marker which would save me some money. If I end up using it a lot more, I might invest in some nice wheels, maybe some Chinese carbon rims.
Do you think the frame will look alright with all black components? I'd probably get it a black stem and seatpost too.

Chain's too tight
