When I used to have a Dakota (same chunky style and mount as Etrex) I used to have a lanyard looped around the bars attached to the Garmin for the occasional time it jumped out of the mount.
You can get an adapter to use the Edge quarter turn mounts with cateye lights so if you want to get creative with super-glue that could be an option. I planned to but never got round to it.
There is some crap on here somewhere too from what I remember http://www.rec-mounts.com/products/adapter/

RWD said "Sorry we don't do one for that unit. It's a little too big and heavy for our mounts."

Hello
Edge 1000 / segment question approaching....
I recently got an Edge 1000 and was wondering, for getting segments onto the unit (so as to enable me to become another segment chasing berk), am i right in thinking that you can only do it by:
- starring segments in strava and syncing the edge
- creating a course in garmin connect and then uploading it to the unit (in which case all the segments on the course transfer to it)
Does it not work if you create a course in strava?
I was hoping that if you create a strava course then send the file to the edge, all the segments transfer across, but it seems not.
I know the solution would be to just create the course in Garmin Connect but from memory GC is total shite for building maps and want to avoid it if possible.Ta!
- starring segments in strava and syncing the edge

If it's the same process as the Edge 520 you shouldn't need to faff around with courses.
Make sure your Garmin and Strava accounts are linked and then turn on Strava segments (under More->Segments) on the Connect Mobile app.Any starred segments and also popular local segments will then get uploaded next time you sync

Thanks dude. But what i want is to build a course and then have all those segments on the edge, rather than going starring about 20 or whatever segments...

Ffs
Another Garmin Edge 1000 update clusterfuck
The time zone is out by 5 hours- how can i change this?
-

In that case I'd imagine you'd have to star all the segments on the course you've created.
I certainly wouldn't bother starring every segment on a course though, there's whole swathes of guff segments on Strava. Pick a few you want to target ? -

Huh? It's GPS - it should be set from the GPS.
Take it outside and when it gets a sat lock it should be correct time for where you are.

wahoo elemnt anyone?

yes they are exploiting the anti-Garmin sentiment; if its as good as they say I'd convert.

Someone on WW did a TL;DR:
Second hand reports I've seen elsewhere which concern me so far are:
- Reported battery life remaining decreases quickly
- Can't display power with 10 second, etc. smoothing
- No way to manually zero power meters or display the current calibration (Murray added that to to todo list)
- No turn by turn directions (Murray says March, 2016)
- Auto-pause can't be disabled
Although most of them seem to be resolved.

dcrainmaker will have a review up in a couple of weeks, just wait for that.
Been holding out myself for upgrading from old 500. -

Even with any issues, I'm tempted to get one just to help anyone who's competing with Garmin...

"The unit is rated at 17 hours of GPS battery life"
-
• #3167
They are solving it. The engineers are really good with response on that google group ..
Plus 17h is 16h too much for most.

Can't display power with 10 second, etc. smoothing
That doesn't sound right. I just had a quick scan of that group and saw
"The power vs ride and power vs lap fields at the top of the power list are instantaneous. The "vs ride" and "vs lap" are the pace arrow on the right showing more or less versus the longer average..
5,10, etc. second power farther down the list are averages.
3 seconds will be in a future release."
So it does sound like it does some averaging.

17hrs is about 10hrs longer than the Edge 1000...

This is usually due to a corrupt gmaptz.img file. This is the time zone file.
First try using the webupdater to see if it offers you a time zone map update if it does then take it.
If it does not then mount the Edge to the computer and delete the following file
Garmin\gmaptz.img (This is the time zone map)
Run the Webupdater after deleting the file and it will reinstall the map for you. -

oh ..
looks like you need to buy one, they are shipping.

but sunk cost fallacy so no

• #3173
wut? its cheaper than wank that is edge 1000 ..
-
• #3174
Ha! They're going to an 810... good luck with that.
Does this one require a phone?
I can't be using something that's swapping 0W with interpolated values and fucking up my training data though so I'll wait a bit before I bother trying one.

17h is 51 rides. That's a 4 year battery life!
I emailed racewaredirect. Doesn't look like they have anything but while looking around I spotted RAM mounts which hold the whole device and at least 'look' more secure...
