My old installation of Express didn't update it automatically. Maybe I'd neutered it already?

This was forced onto my device last night...
Changes made from version 5.20 to 6.00:
Added support for Varia Vision. Pair with this sensor by turning it on and adding it by selecting Settings > Sensors > Add Sensor > Varia Vision. Choose it from your list of sensors to configure its display settings and data screens. Improved stability of ANT+ and Bluetooth connections to address dropout issues. Improved navigation by leveraging enhanced map data in 2015.30 cycle maps. Added the ability to automatically download software updates over Bluetooth. You will be able to download the next software update after this one by pairing to a smartphone with the Garmin Connect Mobile app. Updates can be installed when you are prompted after they are downloaded. If you choose to wait, a ready-to-install update can be found in Menu > Settings > About > System > Software Update. Fixed an issue causing some manual activity uploads over Bluetooth to fail.

Is it possible to reverse a segment's direction?

Is it possible to reverse a segment's direction?

In rare "it works" news, my 810 seems to have cracked this uploading over Bluetooth lark at which it failed so badly when I first got it.
-

The segment is actually a TT course I'm racing soon but it's come out backwards from the silly segment generation tool I used. Wondered if, like a ridden route, you could flip it? Probably have to recreate it.

It's probably now sending a virus to your computer which will slowly overwrite all your data with long/lat values.

Justified the purchase of a Fenix 3 with the 'annoyance' of having to plug-in my 800 to upload activities to Strava and I have to say I'm very impressed to date; quite nice to have the quantified self stats of steps and sleep etc. back again...lost those after my Jawbone UP 24 decided to pack in.
The LiveTracking 'gimmick' is also pretty useful, far more so than I originally anticipated. Pizza was just coming out of the oven when I arrived home last night!
No issues with GPS signal as I've seen reported on other forums. Would recommend.

Does Live Tracking work properly on the Edge 1000? Would be interesting to try it once I've got a dynamo setup that meant the piece of crap (and my phone I guess) lasted longer than 7hrs.
-
• #3142
In the TransAm and TCR they give you a tracker that uses batteries, don't know how it will upload GPS data, but for sure the Edge 1000/810 will need to be paired with the mobile phone via bluetooth, so it can upload live data using whatever connection the phone can get on the road (remember to get an american SIM card)

I meant for other rides here - training rides and audaxes where I don't have a 'race' SPOT tracker and my missus might want to know where I am.

With Garmin's Live Tracking all the GPS device is doing is sending GPS info to the Garmin Connect app on a phone via BlueTooth. It's the phone that then uses its data connection to update the service.
Can't imagine (even with Garmin's level of fuckwittery) the GPS device being the problem. But being reliant on the battery in both the GPS and the phone, and worrying about having data coverage is going to be the bigger concern.
I've only used the Live Tracking once (on a run) to test it out and see what it gives (not a huge amount of info). If I go for a run on Sunday morning I'll try and remember to set it up and post the link here (the link stays live for 24 hours I think so it might not be great for endurance events anyway).
I meant for other rides here - training rides and audaxes where I don't have a 'race' SPOT tracker and my missus might want to know where I am.
Buy your own SPOT tracker. A SPOT Gen3 can be found for £80 or so second hand (eBay) and the service plan (for online tracking) is roughly ~£100 a year: http://www.findmespot.eu/en/index.php?cid=110
You can then use your own SPOT tracker in any of the big races (TCR/TransAm/TourDivide/etc).

Gen3 or the Trace? Trace looks better (more minimal).
I actually already have a cheap GPS tracker but testing it on LEJOG it was pretty shit.
-
• #3146
For the big races a Gen3 will be required (they need to provide the SOS button functionality).
Not sure if a Trace would be good enough for personal stuff, the SPOT website sucks vast quantities of cock and isn't clear at all.

TransAm doesn't need spot unless racing and they don't specify which type.
TCR uses Trace I think.
I'll have a read up and see what's hot or not.

Anyone on here used an Etrex 30x?
Did you get one of these in the end? Looks like a superior alternative to the Garmin Edge Touring Plus, at the price of the base Touring model.
-
• #3149
Yeah, I've got one. I've not used it much but took it as backup yesterday and trialled it for navigation in a recent 200k. It seems to work. I miss the audible turn by turn (actually it might do this, depending on how you set it up, I'm not 100%).
The mount is shit, I almost lost it within 30min of using it. I'll try and find something else for it - maybe I should speak to racewaredirect about it.

If you find an alternative to the rubbish eTrex touch 35t mount I'd be keen. It always rattled for me, but now it's started just falling off. Daily use seems to have just worn it out too much.
I don't like having a working device fucked with - I didn't update it for a reason - the other 800 I borrowed was on a newer version and went mental during a LEJOG recon.
Not that I'm racing any this year but if it starts failing during 24s I'll be very fucking unimpressed. It was the only Garmin I had that would actually make it past 12 hrs.
