its a fallacy so doesn't have to be right.
In fact, by definition.....

does anyone own an edge touring ,if so how are they, this thread has got me reconsidering?

Whilst we were talking about this earlier, I forgot to make my point. About creating your routes with waypoints set before turns. Apparently if you place them before turns, they get converted into turn prompts properly. I think this only works for GPX files.

Aha, thanks. Is that only possible with RWGPS premium?
-
• #3182
Experiment time - lets try it out and see. Plot a test route (a section of your commute perhaps) - you export it as tcx, and GPX. Send me the rwgps ride, I will duplicate the route. Then export as GPX. We can then compare the GPX files. I think they will be the same. So I don't think its a premium feature.

I've just purchased another Polar soft HR strap as my previous one died. The new strap doesn't seem to allow the Garmin sensor to clip in, as each of the two metal holes are surrounded by rubber. Is this a new design? Or have I purchased the wrong strap?
EDIT - it seems they've slightly changed the design. Apparently you can shave a mm or two off the rubber surrounds and it works as before.

Mine and the girlfriend one was pretty reliable, probably because it's quite dumbed down.

I just updated my Edge 1000 and now any turbo sessions I have done where the distance value is 0, gives a prompt of "invalid ride, delete?". Luckily I can BT them off but can't view them anymore on the device. Cool upgrade.

Garmin software developers >>>
-
• #3188
I still can't figure out why no company has already created a head unit based on Android that really works without issues, for example the TwoNav units are Android based, but their software is still crap (lacks many Average data fields, problems displaying power...)
I'm a software developer, and understand what a Minimum Viable Product is and why sometimes things get out with many details to "polish", but in a company with lots of money to invest in quality assurance in the release lifecycle.... maybe the bosses are greedy, maybe they are stupid, maybe both but they still keep selling a lot so they keep it going.
I still look back to my old Garmin Edge 305 as the best gps I've ever had

I still look back to my old Garmin Edge 305 as the best gps I've ever had
My Edge 705 is on its second battery and still going strong. I fear upgrading to something newer from everything I've heard.

Early days so far, but I really like the Edge 520 I got last week. No doubt it's software will magically explode in a months time or so

Replacing my 705 battery to be frugal is now one of the best decisions I've made judging by comments on later versions.

Anybody know if there's a replacement screen available for the Edge1000? There's a busted one on the desk that I'd like to use.

Live Tracking
"If I go for a run on Sunday morning I'll try and remember to set it up and post the link here..."
Was wiped out with lurgy last weekend so didn't do any running. About to nip out for a cheeky 13 mile slow run (7 nice monotonous laps of the parkrun loop on Putney Heath) so I'll enable the live tracking and hope it works:-
This should start moving some time around 1.30pm: http://livetrack.garmin.com/session/82e222b5-6f94-40e5-924b-7c1b081998a7/token/51815B3B7FD8DA244C5BF5A4A272897
Not sure what live info it shows, don't think it will show HR, probably just position trace, time, total distance and average pace.
(If it's showing somewhere in Missouri then it hasn't started yet. Hoping listening to the radio via the BBC Sport app at the same time won't stop it working, it shouldn't.)

Some more Edge1000 questions...
i've paired my phone successfuly with the unit and it is working for uploads of files. i was getting text / call alerts when out riding but now they've stopped and only seem to come in when i stop the ride.... any ideas why?
2) i have set up time alerts in the activity profile notifications screen, but the edge is not giving me any noises / messages at all.... what am i doing wrong?
lastly, is it just me or is the touchscreen a bit pants with gloves? i'm trying to keep it smear free, which i guess doesn't help

Garmin 800.. Fully charged. Switch on.. Turns itself off after a few seconds.. Any ideas?
Battery / connection maybe.. -

If you have a micro sd card fitted, try removing it and restarting the garmin. If it starts ok, your card may be corrupt /not being read corectly.

• #3197
Missed this but it shows a route now. No idea if it was live.

• #3198
I don't pair mine with phone (umadbro?!)
i have set up time alerts in the activity profile notifications
I might try setting timer alerts on mine and see what happens.
is it just me or is the touchscreen a bit pants with gloves
It's not you, it's shit with gloves compared to the 800

Garmin 800 map help please.
Current
Have a Garmin 800 with City Navigator Europe maps.
My account in Garmin tells me that those maps have 'expired'. (as of 2013)I have downloaded Garmin Express and synced to version '2.70', so I am 'up to date' but only did that yesterday.
Why are my maps so shit?
a) I just don't have them - see 1 above
b) when i check my device 'CN europe NT 2012.40 is shown as enabled but the device is 'out of date'.I have tried to d/l 'openstreetmaps' but this keeps failing when I try to move to move to my SD card. I am using most recent Mac operating system
I saw above the discussions with respect to how long these devices will be supported but @Mikey5000's 'touring' unit who I enjoyed a lovely ride with yesterday is clearly a better and more usable unit.
That wouldn't even get my to the start of my ride...
