  • @Hippy Do you need a PA? I can fill out CTT entry forms for you.
Happy to be paid cash in hand.

  • Yes, I need a PA.
You'll get something in your hand - it might not be cash though.

It's not the filling the forms out, it's the knowing when the event is on, then setting enough reminders in my calendar so that I do the entry before closing dates. I guess I could send out a tonne of entries at the start of the year but I don't always know what I'm doing on a given weekend. I was going to be going for a WR in Poland this Easter but that's getting pushed back now and so the F course afterthought came too late.

  • @Pifko I'm coming to Poole on Easter Saturday for a week, so I miss the Good Friday test, is there anything else going on that week?

I rode the Rockets and Rascals ride last time I was down, won't be doing that again.

  • No, full set-up (including Zipp stem) with 50mm risers although I might keep the extensions.

I think I'll still need them for Good Friday though, as I won't have risers for the Ventus in time.

  • Right, another question for all the internet buyers out there. It's nearly time to buy the new cranks for my P5 build (Rotor 3D+ with Power2Max) but I'm prevaricating over what length to get. I'm 180cm tall, with a relatively short 80cm inseam length. Most of my road bikes have 172.5mm cranks, although some have 170mm (can't remember which, and I can't tell the difference anyway), my existing TT bike has 170mm, my track bikes have 170mm, and my MTBs have 175mm.

Here's the question - 170mm or 165mm cranks for the P5. 170mm is tried and tested, but if I'm getting new cranks I'm tempted to try 165s. Internet bike fit a-go-go...

  • Just get 170mm. If you're gonna go short crank go <165

(disclaimer - not a bike fitter or on short crank hype train)

  • 170 If that's what you mostly ride on other bikes. Plus won't need to change TT bike saddle height if keep crank length same.

  • It's a new frame, so saddle height isn't really an issue. Probably ought to keep it at 170mm. Just tempted to experiment. Mind you, given that there will be very little objective way of assessing whether it's an improvement or not, it wouldn't be a particularly scientific experiment.

  • Resell value is lower with 165mm. Hipster points higher.

  • @xavierdisley are aerotrips still a thing or are trip socks the only option these days.

    #buyingspeed

  • also after a bit of a recce of the a404 this morning I deffo need moar gears, think 53x39 would be sufficient, thing I might just get a 5800 chainset for now and sell it on once I have a bit more cash for 9000 chainrings in a few weeks...

Unless @hippy wants to lend me some gears!

  • What do you have at the moment?

  • Technically you're my competitor so... "here, try these new playdough cranks!"

But actually I'm waiting on some new chainrings at the moment so could be running stock DA 53 or DA 55 or my single-ring Fibrelyte setup so I might have something you could borrow?

  • I was looking at these the other day but since I already wear calf guards the stickers on them are a lot cheaper than new set of £50 trip socks. I don't know what the aero difference might be between trip socks and calf guards either so bit hard to choose.

  • 52x36 and a 12x25 today but will prob a have an 11-25 next week...

  • having stalked a little bit I think you are quite comfortable 30 seconds faster than me on a 10, #moreofacompleterthanacompeter

  • yeah, £3 per set vs 50 for the socks seems like id have to do a lot of TTing to get my moneys worth, suppose I could wear the socks for a tri, but still £50 is a lot of baked beans....

  • just put a slightly cheeky offer in on a 55t dura ace ring on ebay, might use that and remember not to use the front derauillier - which shouldn't be too hard even on a 10!

  • Benefit of the socks is you know they're in the right place each time and obviously reusable.

I prefer the strips aesthetically but gonna use socks this year.

  • Stalked? I post all my times here, blog them and they're on TTF. :P

I've only raced one lumpy one this year and done a 27. I've only race 12s and 24s to win, every other distance I'm racing to beat my PB and/or score the club record and any placing in these is a fluke.

Oh, I do also have a 54T Gebhardt ring somewhere that hasn't done much work.

  • Well my course best was on 55/13 sooo

  • I wonder if anyone has tried replicating the effect by running a bead of silicon up their shin?

I'm tempted to try it just for the LOLs.

  • tempted to try it just for the LOLs.

Just stick a Toblerone down the back of your socks, that's a Xav approved method and a tasty snack all at once.

  • My understanding is that the shaping of the strip (i.e. using pinking shears) is essential.

  • If he uses silicone sealant, he can just draw a wiggly line to get the effect
