In other news a Cinelli 650c Columbus air fork is currently for sale on eBay. Unfortunately it's a road fork and also quite pricey

I see your point if another fork is much cheaper but the one you mentioned seemed quite costly. Even with an Air fork you will not have a Tommasini frameset only a Tommasini frame with another fork. You could get a Ford Mondeo engine to fit into your E-type lightweight but it will not be a classed as a real Jaguar.
The fork is a large part of the frame. And those Air ones don't even look right.
You are more than welcome to some pics and measurements from mine if it helps.

I've made my decision. I'm going to buy the air fork from Faggin. At £180 for a chrome fork, that is pretty good.
I will use that fork for the meantime until I find the Tommasini fork I need which will probably take however many years.
That's the plan, I'm sticking to it, no more changes... Probably...

I guess you have seen this http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/275140/
Road fork tho.

The same seller also had a track version too, he gave me the email of the guy he sold it to and unfortunately the current owner has told me he's keeping hold of it for his own Tommasini

Road would be ok. Just fill in the hole. The Tommasini track version has an indent as a guide for drilling on the track forks as crown is same.
Better than non Tommasini alternative until right one comes up. -

I'll throw in my two cents and say go for the Tommasini Road forks which are drilled, as a better stop gap than the Faggin ones. as well as being more legit they'll hold their value for when you do decide to replace them.

No idea if these are of any use..
edit - just realised they are 700c, not 650. doh.

Why dont just make the fork that you have bought shorter? When you shorten it for smaller wheel you can make smaller gaps and by that your rake will also get smaller - just like in the track forks.
-
• #161
They aren't available anymore I believe.
-
• #162
Those are mine, the ones that originally came with the frame
-

Because it would be an awful lot of money to convert the current fork I have, remember I'll have to get it rechromed after too.
I think we have to remember that the frame already isn't 'genuine' as the seat tube has been replaced as well as the paint not being original. Is it really that important for the forks to be Tommasini?

Much less than buying new ones at least where i live :P

To probably a lot of disagreement, I'm about to place the order with Faggin. I hope not to upset too many people but it is what I think is right.
At the end of the day, if I find the right one in the future, I can always swap it out. And I can easily see the fork from Faggin keeping its value if I ever find the right one and decide to sell

I'm sure it will look excellent when you've finished it. There is plenty of time to alter things later on. - Now here's an idea ............ready....... get them to make a fork with bar fixings like the Rossins :)

please yes.
Faggin plan is sound, as long as you don't try selling this one immediately.
-
• #168
Don't worry, the Tommasini his here to stay ;-)
Money has been sent to Faggin, will be made at some point in the next 30 days

What bar tape? Looks cool!
-
• #171
Now that is the important question
-
• #172
Obviously the same colour as the decals.
-
• #173
I had a shade of blue in my mind, though maybe not.
-
• #174
Probably the best option, which tape though? My bar tape knowledge is poor

Benotto perhaps?
You say it'll be a special one off fork however really it is something that I can get make from any frame builder for much less without the pantographs.
For me, being able to get a proper Columbus air fork is more special as I know that not anyone can just knock one out. And I also know that the frame was originally intended to be used with an air fork
