Its actually the other way around. Designers have more #steelisreal following. There is no need for custom (for 99% of us) and there is a reason pros have moved to CF.
Steel is hipster fodder.

Because Zick Zack 55.

there is a reason pros have moved to CF
The same reason pros do anything. They're told to.
Crabon is just cheaper to mass produce.

Crabon is just cheaper to mass produce.
Thats my point too. Why live in the past?
-
• #457
Then I'd have to choose a sponsor.
Or more to the point, find one that'd put up with a gobby fuckwit like me.

• #458
I did, briefly, in the form of that Salsa. But I'm all about Di2 and discs and most steel offerings don't err offer that.
-
• #459
Brewdog?
-
• #460
This too. It'd need to be OTP steel.
-
• #461
I sponsor them!

Why live in the past?
Well yes, there's always going to be those who might enjoy 35mm film, vinyl and steel. I don't use either of the first two anymore, but have a liking for steel frames.
I'm also one of the 1% who benefits from a custom frame, so have a certain bias towards their use.
Basically, I think I'm just sick of people on here saying "UR DOIN IT ALL WRONG" in relation to bike buying advice. Maybe I need a holiday :-/

Check out my link http://www.donhoubicycles.com/dss2/

soz - it shows mechanical groupset, but Tom will build in di2 too

Not at all mate. I completely agree with you and I am the same. I predominantly ride steel as 80% of my riding is commuting (sigh).
I am kind of ridiculing myself and have accidentally offended you :P
I also fucking love carbon! If you haven't I'd highly recommend try some :)
Maybe Datum? LOL -
• #466
But how long will that take?
The Datum has been sold. They said they'll try and find another one no idea how long that will be. Meantime I'm going to try and have a play on a Bowman whatsitcalled.

• #467
have accidentally offended you
Nah, I've just been ill for nearly two months and am grumpy with EVERYONE.
Maybe Datum
:-D
-
• #468
Also, almost £4k and that's without Di2 or discs.
-
• #469
OTP steel
Is this OTP?
-
• #470
I would 'race' that.
-
• #471
Has the Kona Major Jake been mentioned? Carbon, disc & di2 compatible and available as a frame.
-
• #472
I doubt that - he's super keen for the exposure in Trans Am, I'm sure he would do a deal for someone with your skillz , last time I spoke to him had frames ready tacked up. I half regret not going for it now #worthacall.

@hippy I've asked a mate at Canyon whether they'd help sort you out. Mentioned it would have to be Di2 and disk compatible, and I do know that they have prototypes of this already so it's worth doing. I'll let you know if he gets back to me.
If you get a sponsor, then feel free to point out that I have an email list of ~35,000 and they'd get a mention in there and I'd be happy to put a photo of you + bike (or just bike if you're feeling shy) in there. Which means supplying a frame will give them more reach than their average print advert in a shitty magazine... let alone the ongoing value as you do the ride and so forth.

Trans Am is massive in Merica - #demandfreestuff
Hurry up and get a bike, then the thread can get back onto guns
Hippy is a long-distance cyclist not a graphic designer. The frame material is, er... immaterial :-/
