  • Cheers but I'm all sorted for now. I have a Sheriff star wheelset set up to purchase hopefully this week. I also just picked up a 650c front (new mack low flange on NOS mavic open 4 cd).

I'll probably use that front and the sheriff rear for a bit and then have the front sheriff rebuilt onto the mavic rim. Then eventually get the rear rebuilt onto a matching rim. If anyone has a 32h 700c mavic open4 cd rim in good condition let me know.

  • I honestly dont know.. I just think the cranks should match the hubs and so forth. Just go for the sherrifs and dont lace radially as Colin says. I hope for some pursuit bars in the future too ;-)

  • Sheriff stars will match my cranks :-) Picking up the wheel set on Thursday evening. Pursuit bars will happen, looking for a set of LA84's if you know of any for sale

  • Finally I got a front wheel to ride on, took it out for the first ride this evening. Felt really good, it rode crisply and smooth. Lots of fun, no toe overlap is such a blessing. Unfortunately with the road fork there is a massive gap which I'm not that pleased with but will deal with for now.

  • Nice! Gonna be pron for sure. https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/191811645633

I recommend going a cm shorter on the stem when using la84,s as they bring you further forward than most bullhorns btw

  • Looking great so far!
But to be hones I am more excited about the rat Osca.

  • Looks good. It's going to look amazing when you bring that front wheel back a bit.

  • Cheers for the comments guys!

@gonnok I'm excited about the Osca too don't worry, really just need a headset and I can build it. I'm just going to use the parts which are on my Martrac so it'll be Sugino 75's with aero ring, rear HED disc and risers

@Jonny69 Closer front wheel would make it look much better.

Emails with Faggin aren't really going well, it seems the language barrier is getting in the way. I can't get them to confirm if they know exactly what I want, I'm worried I'll order and end up receiving a 700c road fork with brake holes... I'm thinking about giving Steve Goff a call instead, will likely be a little more expensive but I want to make sure what I'm ordering is correct.

  • Goffy didn't have any Air when I asked 3 years ago, I suppose he could possibly have found some since. I'm sure he would help you with a the specifications to get a fork built elsewhere, he's a top geezer!

  • Cheers for the link, got them for a bargain price!

  • Ahh, It's listed on the site but I guess he might not have any. I'll call anyway and see if he can help

  • Well done! They look pretty much brand new too

  • Hmm so Steve Goff got back to me and has told me that he doesn't have any air tubes :~(

So I'm back to square one on the fork front. I'm thinking about just getting a fork make from Columbus max and being done with it.

Also Rychtarski got back to me and said that they can't mod a 27.2mm seatpost to fit air tubing, which is weird because I know they've done it before.

  • 650 23C tube is a bit biger than 650 23C clincher 23 (for your gap ; )
    nice bike !

  • Well the current tyre in there is a 20c! Even with a 23c the gap is going to be annoyingly large. I think a new fork is the way to go. It means the bio bike can get its original from back too

  • you could just get the steerer extended on the track forks? Also even the frames with original forks aren't that tight so i wouldn't worry about it

  • I'm making one final attempt with Faggin before I throw in the towel on air forks

  • have you asked orlowski???

  • Yes, they have no Columbus air and they only make straight blade max forks

  • The cost of getting the steerer extendended and then having the forks rechromed is going to be in the same ball park as getting a new fork made.

The clearance I'm fussed about it between the fork crown and tyre. Not bothered about the downtube clearance

  • Hi,
    A few points -
First excellent work and interesting post.
The original forks on these are silly tight I cannot even get certain wheels in (650c's in fact seem to vary a lot in actual diameter).
I think a rear disc/ front spoked would be a great solution as that is a common set up on outdoor tracks.
I think also originals would have pista headset. Cranks you have are spot on.
    Looks great.
What is your bb height out of interest?
    Si

  • Cheers!

I want silly tight fork clearance! Pretty much my favourite feature of track frames. Current fork really isn't doing it of me so I will end up getting some sort of track fork made.

I have a he'd disc currently and I've also just bought a russian disc which is a bit too ratty for this. I've recently been thinking that silver ambrosio disc would look good with the current paint.

Pista headset will happen if I ever find one. I have just the standard one for now, only difference is the stack height.

BB height is 10.75 inches but it'd be lower then that with the original forks.

  • An update on affairs:

Sheriff star wheel on the back, will be relaced to a mavic open 4 cd in time. Front is only temporary. I have a NOS 650c open 4 cd wheel in the post which the front sheriff star will be relaced to. Cinelli LA84's will arrive this week too, need to choose some good bar tape!

I've sorted out most of the main parts, there are still a lot of small parts to change though. Heres my current list:

    Campag c-record post 27.2
    Campag seat bolt binder
    Campag chainring 1/8"
    Campag 16t cog 1/8"
    Campag toe straps and clips
    Campag c-record pista headset
    Cinelli 2A stem

Now that it is operational, those parts will be added over time, as and when they come up or I have some spare cash.

  • Steve Goff has come through! He's found a set of air aero fork blades and a Cinelli aero fork crown to go with them. He's after £250 for the fork which means it'll have to wait until I sell some stuff first.

I made a last attempt with Faggin asking them to confirm what I want and I still don't know if I'm going to get a track fork or not...

Think I'm going to go for Goff
